ps3 remote HELP please
« on: July 11, 2011, 03:14:11 PM »
:help: i installed a rapid fire kit on my six axis dual shock 3 remote and i wanted to try another one so i removed the kit and went tried to put it back to normal for the time being but the L1 button kept sticking so i took it apart and cleaned the contacts and where the ribbon goes sandwiched to the board with alcohol 91% lol and now it wont turn on i wiggle the ribbon around and sometimes itll work but the board works when i hook up the board usb the pretty lights blink
im stumped anyone else had this prob?
also not the battery because i have like 10 of them lol and no difference

EDIT******** well guys after doing some testing and getting the same results thrice
on the six axis dual shock 3 controller when you take them apart and where the ribbon (the clear and green ribbon) goes attached to the board
on the board where it goes connected DO NOT CLEAN THE CONTACTS WITH ALCOHOL 91% i  :censored: up 2 boards already and well actually a 3rd one also since it was already broken broken analog
everytime i cleaned it with alcohol i can never get the ribbon to function like its suppose guess the alcohol screws up the contacts reason i did the first 2 was because due to beer spillage and the thrid one because some buttons where not responding so i decided to try and clean everything i could

A couple of questions first , and I will see if I can help.
1 first question and might seem to obvious but is there any damage to the connecting wire to the board from the battery . when you plug in the usb cable does it flash like charging normal?
2 Is the black rubber part installed correctly with the daughter board where the contacts are?
3 What board do you have? Can you post pics?
4 Can you give details of what you used for RF? Did the first rf kit work for you? I am guessing not as you said you were going to try another one.

1 no there is no damage and yes when i hook it up usb the lights flash but doesnt sync
2 yes the little black rubber thing is intact and functions as normal
3 vx3.0 is the board
4 and yeah the rf did work but it only had one mode on it was was kinda cheap

the controller works but its the stupid ribbon that doesnt wanna align right because everytime i wiggle it itll randomly work but weird thing is i only took it apart 3 times 1 time to install rf and 2nd to remove and 3rd to troubleshoot
i say weird because i had a test dummy and i took it apart a crap load of times and it never gave me a ribbon issue also if i can get it to turn on the controls are all erratic

ok the the problem is definitely where the daughter board meets the controller.
Since its randomly will work I am thinking your are not seating the ribbon cable correctly or the daughter board is bad or damaged. And you are sure the black rubber part is behind the contacts pushing them down on the controller board. I find that some times the little alignment hole slides off when you go to reassemble sometimes. The one right next to the contacts. When this tab is not set right the controller will go back together but won't function normal.
To test for damage of the daughter board put your daughter board together w black rubber thing, and the controller and press them together with one and and hold it. While you attempt to connect to the ps3.
As far as the rf, you say kit? was it a solder-less kit?

If you mean the wires pulled out of the battery, you can take the pack apart and inside is a lith pack with very easy spots to solder to.

1 is the connector still attached to the battery pack?
2 is the connector still attached to the board?
either way you can solder the battery wires directly to the back side of the clip on the board.

I am not 100% sure maybe 90% that the bottom leg is pos, and the top is neg. from the position you show in the pic.
The reason I say not 100% because i have not seen a 4.0 board personally.
p.s. did you save the clip?

Ok , the black wire goes on top and red wire goes to the bottom pin.
