FOOKz™ Xbox360 Re-Modification
« on: August 06, 2011, 12:04:02 AM »
OK so here is a controller a friend gave me and hes giving me $30 to do whatever i want to it. The plan is to cut slits into the case and figure out how to put some kind of epoxy in there to make transparent slits for LEDs to shine through. The controller already has rapidfire in it so there is no worry. Then when im done with all of that I will sand the paint down a bit and clear coat it so its shiny and evenly coated.

If i have any better ideas for the lights like rumble-reactive i might try it but for now its going to be on/off with the controller.

UPDATE #1

First attempt at making the case partially clear failed.

Poured hot wax on the case to make a mold. Wax was too hot and melted the plastic. Woops!

Im keeping it's color possibly adding a dark shade of green with it. He painted the controller himself and he gave me the can of paint just in case.

The LEDs are Amber and White. The amber will go nice with the light green. The White will look nice if there lots of lighting in the room.

The leds are going to be sideways so its not glaring in your face but instead its going to bounce off of some foil

Nah this might give a better look to the controller because the cuts give it depth and something for the light to shine on. Plus its time to try new things.

"Poured hot wax on the case to make a mold. Wax was too hot and melted the plastic. Woops!"
oops. I like the idea tho. I was trying to find something like rubber thats hot and cools cured. But I was worried about the melting. Which now I don't have to test that theory.
Fookz the best thing to do is get yourself some clear silicone caulk and the mold making material. The best way to make a reusable mold is to use the mold making material to lay on your first couple thin layers and strengthen using the silicone . This method works great. Eventually i was going to update my tute on this subject as I think I have perfected making all sorts of molds, and am working on vacuum , injection molding next. But anyways I thought I'd share this tip for you and maybe you can give it another go. BTW on flat surfaces , I use pieces of scrap tin sheets. duct tape them down. It also can be used on flat arches also. Like cylinder walls. If you need help acquiring the mold making material pm me, I'll see what we can do.
