I will be making a submerged xbox 360 in mineral oil. Yes i know this has been done before, but believe me.....I am doing something with it that has never been done before. So standby for the best submerged console ever.

Well ive made a little bit of progress. As you can tell there is a divider in the tank, can anybody guess why ?lol. This is a 6.6 gallon tank, im having a couple gallons of mineral oil in the back side for the xbox board and the rest on the other side fresh water for the fish. Yes i know the silicone looks like crap right now but im waiting on it to dry so i can clean it up and it will be hidden by the rest of the goodies i add in the tank. Its gonna look awesome from the front cause you wont even be able to tell theres a divider. Will look like fish are swimming with xbox parts.

I will be making a top piece for it out of wood, routing the edges and making a nice lid for it. The top will be holding my filtration system and air pump plus a heater for the fish. It will also be holding the dvd drive, hard drive etc.

Yes i know my desk is messy as all hell....engine parts and modding parts all mixed up hahah....

Quick Question: What's the best way to remove ports off the xbox motherboard?

sweet.I think heating the water for the fish may pose a problem.The oil is going to heat up fast causing the console to rrod.You are going to need to make yourself a cooling system for the oil.A water cooling system would work.And as for the wood top you may want to make it out of some thick plexi glass.You could encase your dvd drive.along with all your other parts.It would also look a lot better than the wood.
But i am looking forward to seeing how this one comes out.

He could use the heat from the xbox oil to heat the tank. Or vice versa and use the water to cool the oil. same thing really.

well not sure.He is for 1 thing going to need to keep that oil cool it heats up really fast.If there is no cooling the oil just contains the heat not allowing it to escape.I think adding a temp monitor would also be smart idea

i would have never thought about keeping the fish in the tank. also saves on the amount of oil that you will need to buy.

2 things i would like you to be aware of as i have walked down this road before... pick a hearty fish as the water will get hotter than you expect unless you use a radiator to cool to oil. also mineral oil eats away at silicone over time... mine became jelly in 3 months and failed after about months

the oil will also make any wires you have in there brittle after about a month so try not to move them after that point =)

Bonz is very correct.I should have mention that.Heat shrink tubing would also help or maybe puting your wires in some clear tubeing

Thanks for the heads up bonz, i did plan on getting thin clear acrylic tubing to run all my wires through so they wont be exposed to the oil. As for frosty.....this isnt my first rodeo cowboy lol. I only plan on using the water heater when im not playing the xbox. The oil will keep the water plenty warm. I will be monitoring temps with my thermocouple. My plan is to keep both the oil and water no hotter than 75°F, if that fails then i will be adding a pump and radiator. There will be a temp gauge in both the oil and water. As for the lid.....lol i should have explained better on how i was going to do it. The lower portion of the lid is gonna have a resin coating on it to prevent rotting. It will also have a cut out with an accessible lid to feed the fish and a ventilation fan to help prevent condensation build up. Then on top of the lower portion of the lid will contain all the things such as the dvd drive pumps filters etc. The lid is going to have cutouts in it for all the xbox ports such as memory card ports, hdmi, av, usb etc. There is also going to be a built in ipod dock with speakers. Lol i understand it looks like

right now, but the finished product is gonna look very clean and professional. I appreciate all the suggestions but most have already been thought about.

mine gets up to between 80c and 90c that is almost enough to boil the water but mine is not an xbox it is a p4 equiv but from what i understand xbox's get extremely hot i would plan for a rad and use gold fish... they can handle hot and cold better than most....if you use a heater i'd bee cool to see you wire it so it is on when the xbox is off and when you fire the xbox the heater turns off automatically

Yeah i can understand why yours gets so hot lol, you also have your power supply in with the oil. That will increase the temp tremendously. I will be doing lots of testing with temps before i throw some poor little fishys in it lol. Im hopeing with all the cooler fresh water on the other side of the divider, that will help a bit to dissipate the heat. If not i will work with some peltier coolers before i go to a radiator and fan since my budget on this entire project is $100. Im only $20 into it.

could bubble it like i did it does drop my temp by about 8c

Bold idea. I've only seen one other version of this before and i personally didn't like the idea of submerging a console in oil, but I hope this works out. good work so far

Why not make the divider double paned? That way, you wont have to worry about heat transference between the oil and water.

looking good. ive always wanted to do something submerged - if i ever do will look back here for inspiration.

i want tropical fish in mine though lol so i thought peltier cooler for the console going into water to keep fish warm

Mineral oil and glycol might not be the best thing. I've used stuff called PC Ice. its supposed to be corrosion resistant and is safe with most plastics and is non-toxic.

Oh My GOD.... Do not use this for a full system cooling...
