Halo 4 Controller PCB
« on: November 02, 2012, 11:51:42 PM »
Here are some pics of the new board inside the Halo 4 limited edition controllers, it has a white solder mask, and blue LED's for the ROL. Im not sure if its a cg or matrix setup, it looks similar to matrix 2 boards

Acidmods exclusive :#1: lol

Very nice!!!

You should be able to differentiate CG from Matrix by looking at the trace(s) that go to a button.

If one side of the pad goes straight to the ground plane then it's a CG.

If both pads for the button have traces leading away, then it is Matrix.

I would be interested to know which it is since the CG's are so much easier to mod.

I always wondered, where does Microsoft special order the ROL surface mount LEDs, because where else can you find Green/Blue 0603s that last as long as theirs do without dimming.

Uh, it looks exactly like a CG V2 to me, just white. It has the exact same component layout. I would guess it also has the same trace pattern, but its hard to tell with this picture (the white makes it very difficult to see traces).

Traces from the buttons does not determine CG vs Matrix. The most common thing about Matrix boards is that they use 3-pin diodes on all of the buttons.

I did just notice one big difference: The center of the bottom of the PCB is exactly the same as a CG V2, but there is alot of stuff on the 'wings' of the PCB that was never on the CG V2. Alot of extra PCBs and components. I am intrigued.

It does have the same component layout as cg2 boards. is there any definitive way to tell if its matrix or cg? I cant get a good picture of the button traces, but there is 2 traces coming off each button, none go to ground. Also the LED's are white, not blue lol.

here are some more pics.

Those are much better pics phantom. LOL. Dude, those buttons go to ground. The waffle looking part is ground. Its definitely a modified CG2. And by modified, I mean the extra components you took great pics of.

Is there anything special about the controller compared to standard ones? You mentioned white LEDs. I could see some of those components as a way to step up the voltage from the AA batteries to light those up correctly. Does it possible have built-in tilt?

Any chance you could see where the LED common line goes?

Leds are blue in that controller, and the semi transparent case looks sick.
Be interesting to see how modifiable it is.

If you can, can you measure the voltage across the LED when its lit? We already know that the battery voltage is 3.0V and if you see higher than that on the blue LED, then we know what those extra components are for :)

The LED's are white they shine through the blue plastic ring that makes them look blue

I measured the voltage on the LED's, and it never went higher than the battery voltage

heres a pic of the LED's, im not sure if there is a common line? i really have no clue

also the part number on that extra IC is winbond 25x20blnig 1222

I will be modding this thing soon

I've actually bought some from that account in the past.  I've come to learn that the different color's will require certain voltages, so there's no way of avoiding dimming as the AA output voltages lower.
