Slim open tray error
« on: May 13, 2013, 04:57:48 PM »
I picked up this xbox slim for $30 it was never opened, worked fine, but wont read disks.  This is the first slim i have opened, and its not much different that the oldschool phats. Anyway, I got the slim tore down and into testing the DVD drive.

The lazer was at the home position when I opened it.
The drive opens fine, takes in the disk,
The disk spins,
The lazer shines for a second twice,

then it stops and does nothing. Ideas? See video:

ok so I got the new lazer today, swapped it out part for part. now when I put a disk in the disk will spin for a bit but the lazer doesnt light up. is there something I am missing? (the old lazer lit up red when it was reading.)

was there an anti static solder point? if so remove the laser then remove the solder point.

I have never seen any point in flashing the DVD drive. If I want to play back ups I will RGH it and save the cost of the disks by transferring the media using flash memory. For now I am just going to sit on it until I find a use for it.
