1708 Xbox one Controller 11 buttons Pressed
« on: February 03, 2025, 04:35:44 AM »
Hi there!

I have Xbox One controller (1708) where following buttons are not working /or are constantly pressed A, X, Y LB, RB, START, SELECT and D-PAD while wired. Wireless connection to my PC is not working. I have updated the controller via PC Xbox Accessories app with no results.

I've been doing my research from below posts:
https://acidmods.com/forum/index.php?topic=44652.0
https://acidmods.com/forum/index.php/topic,43981.0.html

Upon checking I can confirm the following:

U4 SCL - PIN 19 - J1 - PIN 5 > 0,25 Ohm
U4 SDA - PIN 20 - J1 - PIN 7 ->  33 Ohm
U4 SDA - PIN 20 - BEGINNING OF R41 -> 0,1 Ohm. End of R41 -> 33 Ohm
Same U4 SDA - PIN 20 - T30 -> 33Ohm
U4 RESET - PIN 24 - J1 - PIN 9 -> 0,29 Ohm
U4 ADDR - PIN18 -> to be fair this value is unknown for me. Should I test it plugged and put my DMM to AC, right?

If yes then in auto mode I had following results:
With black thread to ground and red to pin 18 I had value 5.2
With red thread to ground and black to pin 18 I had value 3.4

If I would suspect anything, that would be the R41 gone wrong reading 33 Ohms - if this is the case, should I jump wire PIN 20 to T30 and check if it works? Otherwise, where I could check next?

Apologies for my poor explanation but this is me first time trying to fix electronics as I'm getting into the hobby expanding my soldering skills and in the future I'd love to fix consoles as a hobby.

Thanks to anyone who would be able to guide me a bit further!

ADDR, U4p18, should have 3.3v DC on it

R41 should be a jumper, 0 ohms, but I can't see 33ohms causing it to not work, still that's not correct and should be replaced, or just jumper it with a wire.

That board is pretty bad for having a couple of issues. Either some corrosion will open up the Reset line somewhere, or U4 has been known to fail and cause some or all of the buttons connected to it to act like that. If the Reset line is good, then welcome to learning some hot air rework, as that's a QFN package with an exposed pad under it, so it can not be swapped with a soldering iron.
Screwing up is one of the best learning tools, so long as the only thing you're not learning is how to screw up.

I cannot be more content with your reply. I have just ordered 2nd hand Atten ST-862D station so I'm happy I have little project already.

Do you think I can purchase somewhere U4 pin or do I need another broken controller for the spare parts?

It's nothing that would have to come from another controller, just an IO expander, the PCAL6416A.
