1914 Hall Effect sticks not working
« on: June 22, 2025, 08:15:08 AM »
Hey,

i have a xbox series s controller and replaced the analog sticks with ginfull hall effect ones from Aliexpress.
The problem is that the sticks won't read my input or to be more precise they move only in the tiniest amount . Also the movement of one sticks seems to influence the other one.
I know my pads are broken/missing but as far I could tell the the pins are not shorted?
between the 1.8v tp 108 and the ground pads of the hall effect  legs is 1.8(+-0.2) Ohm (measured on my multimeter on the 200 Ohm setting).
The resistance between the center and 1.8v i guess /measured is 7.48 Ohm (on 20k Ohm setting) and the same resistance between the center and ground.
  • - make this 78.9 +-1 Ohm measured on 200k Ohm setting. Don't know how I measured the first value? seems to high now?
All 1.8v pads are connected with 0.2 Ohm(200 Ohm setting) to the 1.8v line as it it the same with the ground pins to ground.
The center pins have all their connection the the tp points  working (about 0.7 Ohm on 200 ohm setting)

I cant attach images ? I have a reddit post with images . Reddit Thread

Could someone help me out?
Also if my description is not enough please tell me what to meassure and I will update it.

No idea on the specifics of those sticks, as I've never messed with them, but were the ones you bought for the XB1 controller? The DS5 and XB1 have a different stick orientation, and the Y-axis sensor is on the opposite side, so that could mess things up. Measuring the resistance on them being hall sensors isn't going to really tell you much, unless something is shorted to something it's not supposed to be, check the voltage on the pins of them with respect to ground.

I have meassured 1.2V for both sticks and their two hall effect modules.
I used pin tp103 to measure the voltage against the port next to the 3.5mm headset connector.
I powered the controller over a usb cable with a usb power supply without the battery inserted

That AN+ (TP103) voltage for the sticks should be 1.8v, so something is wrong there if you're getting 1.2v. Pull all of those things off the board and retest that voltage, then install one sensor at a time and make sure it stays 1.8v. The voltage on the center pin should be around half of that 1.8v with the stick resting at center.

could you write it out for me which pins and tp i should measure? Just to be sure because the pads did suffer a bit from my desoldering.
it seems the 1.8v rail does not deliver its voltage. Where is the 1.8v generated?

The 1914 schematics are here - https://acidmods.com/forum/index.php/topic,44711.0.html

U8 makes the 1.8v for the sticks, though I doubt it's bad, hence removing the Hall sensors and retesting to see if the 1.8v comes back first. You either have a bad Hall stick, the things aren't for the XB1 board or something was stuffed up while doing the swap.
