A word of caution... (Another Update)
« on: October 28, 2007, 03:33:52 PM »
To whoever is going to buy a psp slim...

they are, as i just found out (the hard way) EXTREMELY FRAGILE!

mine got dropped 1 1/2 feet and got a cracked (and nonfunctional) screen

so, BEWARE!

ALSO: if anyone happens to have a spare psp slim screen, i'll buy it.
ALSO ALSO: Any ideas on fixing it?

UPDATE!: Gamestop won't replace it, and Sony will charge me $90, along with shipping, for a REFURBISHED one :beg:! Any ideas?

ANOTHER UPDATE:My cousin in Austria got a PSP Slim (more accurately, I mailed one to him), and his just broke in the same way. Sony shouldn't sell game consoles that break this easily, especially without a case.  :nono:

I layed down hte screen on my table and then when i was done and ready to pick it up it slipped out of my fingers and dropped like 5 inches. Apparently that was just enough. When i finally get a replacement I would have no problem sending it, but im using it now until I get a replacement. The sreen for me works but there are purple vertical lines avery 4MM. So its sorta useable.

Melting the crack from the inside might fix the crack, don't have slim LCD, I was going to get one before Christmas...... but I won't now that I discovered this....

My Fat PSP got dropped so many times already, 2 1/2 years of dropping about 3 a month.... until now it works perfectly.......

Not saying the psp is  :censored:, just saying The fat one is more durable....

EEEK!

Well this is alarming. I want to get a PSP for Christmas, and I want the slim, but now, I'm kinda worried.

I mean, I baby my electronics.

I dropped my iPod twice in two years, and my DS once, but, if it only takes one drop to blow out a PSP Slim, well, ewwww.

I suppose this isn't covered by warranty either, eh?

this can happen to al the handhelds you are lucky on how the DS an ipod fell if the fall on the wrong side or spot of it it'll have a cracked screen too

only because the PSP has just a big screen and it is thinner then DS etc.. it will crack easier but if u use the psp normally and dont drop it, it wont crack ;)

To all of you crying about lag and kicks, remember… when Jesus died, took him 3 days to respawn. Now THAT is lag.

Your kidding me right?  You guys are complaining, and saying the slims aren't built as well because you dropped an electronic device with a LCD screen?  It's not like they are designed to be dropped, yes I'm sure they did do a little designing to ensure it could take a bit of punishment, but come on!  Next your gonna complain that you broke a glass once because it fell off the counter...

look tek im not saying its sonys fault that my psp broke im just saying its sad how fragile they are i mean prolly about 30% of psp owners are lil kids and to be honest kids arnt as careful as say you or me are. and thats going to leave a lot of kids disappointed with thier new toy and well because of the amount of parents complaining sony might revise the slim which doesnt seem fair to sony but personally i hope it happens   :victory:

First of all, Sony didn't release an "official" case for the PSP slim yet, as far as I know. Second, the clerk at the Gamestop I bought it at didn't tell me that a warranty existed (I'm never shopping at Gamestop again. (OK, maybe I am...)), and you can only get a warranty the day you buy the system.

acually sony did release an offical case for the psp slim, BUT, its not avaliable he, only japan which sux.  if you want, you can order it from play asia.  it looks nice, and can fit lots of things.  it also corresponds to the psp slim color. heres a link to how it looks, http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-bf-49-en-70-2638.html

also, sony carrys a warranty for the slim, but i dont think they will fix it unless you really argue with them.  they may not fix it because it consider as a physical damage meanign something that you did affecting the system, like dropping, dropping things on ti and etc that cause somethign not to work. but if you do argue with them and hav other ppl complain abotu tis super fragile screen, they may fix it, like nintendo's ds lite crack hinge.

my hp photosmart camera didnt turn on once, had it for two months and they wanted to give me a reburbrished.  my sis is one of those nuts taht wont stop until she gets it and found a loophole to their warranty policy.  in the policy, it states " recieve new or like new product of the same or similary product". and she wont bug hp until she recieved a new camera instead of an old one because we onlyu had the camera for such a lil time. mayeb if you complain to sony about the fragile screen, and compare it to you phat psp (if you have one) they might replace the LCD>  its worth a shot.
and hmm interesting, i9 dropped my psp slim already, but no cracks or anything, one small light scratch on the ring tho. T-T.  btw, i dropped it off a table when gathering 3 psp.  the strap was caught onto the knob of my tv stand, and fell out of its case (original phat psp pouch).

i wonder, is japanese slim more durable, i hav one coming in soon, but im not gonna risk it.

isnt there someway that you could make something like a shock absorbent caseing for it that still lets you reach the buttons but absorbs large amounts of trauma? course ive never done anything like that so if it cant be done  :cry2:  (really ive never done any modding but im hoping to start tho)

This has inspired me to make a case for slim owners worldwide.

I'm going to need a few Muppets in order to do this though...

Would anyone mind carrying their PSP around in Kermit's :censored: ?
