im doing a progect for school and ive gota to rescerach but i havent built my comp yet so i need to do "rescearch" and make a hypothasis but ive got no clue so how much faster it will go so can sombody tell me how much faster i should expect it to go.

depends on parts, some are crap for OC'ing, Some are bloody amazing.

You need to pair them all together aswell, a great OC'ing CPU will go nowhere with out a great OC'ing Mobo and some flexible Ram.

it seems there are a lot of people asking for the best this or the best for that - maybe someone should just design a thread with a $1500 price or less for each setup and make up specs for best gaming, best OC'ing, best video editing, best general, best word publisher etc

just an idea

that is true. I used to have high end board. but then it warped. Got a new one. after that I am not able to OC it as much as I was able to. It's all comes down to Core design. Toledos and Windstars are examples of great cores. The general rule is that pentium series and Athlon X2 series are Great examples for overclocking.

if you were to go Quad Core, the Intel Q6600 G0 (G0 is the crucial part) has great overclocking, and the new AMD Phenoms should too, but then you need a board to match as i have already said

if i understand over clocking you are putting undue stress on your processor. i understand that some people can not afford to spend the money on a better processor. but i would rather have a processor that ran at 3Ghz with out breaking a sweat than strain one to get it to run at the same speed.

what if what your planning on doing is putting it up to lets say 5ghz especially if you have access to liquid nitrogen

Newegg has 7 boards out now.

For overclocking the Q6600, the Intel P35 chipset is the best. Here are some great ASUS boards:

If you want to go SLI, you should get the EVGA 680i. It doesnt overclock as well as the P35 chipset.

Depends which CPU, Stepping, HSF, Chipset and Ram.

I'm running the C2D E8400 Wolfdale processor + stock HSF with the Intel P45 chipset and Centon PC2-5300 memory.

I can overclock my CPU @ 3.8GHz stable 24/7 and around 4GHz+ with additional cooling and light benchmark software.
