[TUT] PSP MOUSE INSTALLATION TUTORIAL
« on: December 19, 2007, 11:44:55 AM »
This is a tutorial for the PSP mouse mod. It allows you to use a PC ball mouse to control the X () /\ and [] buttons on the psp , adn it allows you to use the right clikc button to act as the R trigger. This is ideal for FPS games as you can use it to look around and then use right click to shoot.

This mod requires a Ball mouse and a psp (powerboard)

Step 1:

YOu must solder these 5 points onto the PSP Powerboard - X () /\, [] and ground.

It will now look something like this :

You must also solder the far right pin on the motherboard connector for the powerboard, in order to use the right trigger

Step 2:

You must now dissassemble your mouse and take out everything, apart from the ball, and the 2 bars with cogs on the end. As pictured below:

SO that your left with this:

Step 3:

Now take a look at these blueprints, this is how the mouse will be soldered:

If you dont understand this then stop now!!

YOu must desolder the R click button from the mouses pcb, and you will be using the first and last pins of this momentary switch.

This is what the wiring will be inside the mouse.

Note you can also design a PCB for doing this, or use copper tape, but for this i'm using wire (it may be hard to see so refer to the picture above mostly)

As you can see there are parts of the wiring which are stripped and are not connecting. It is essential they are not touching, you will see why later.

Step 4: extending the bars...

These are the 2 bars we wil be focusing on:

What i did was melt a hole in the middle of them and then glue the end of a paperclip/screwdrive (something metal preferably) in the middle

You must now glue a short piece of metal (paerclip/end of screwdriver) ontop of the metal you just glued. It should now look like an X

SO that you understand what you are actually doing i will briefly explain how this mod works:

THe PSP X () /\ and [] buttons are like switches, they all share the same ground. when you connect the buttons positive to the ground it completes the circuit pressing the button. The ground, X () /\ and [] are now being wired into this mouse.

From top to bottom on this pic the points are:

1 R trigger
2 Ground
3 Circle
4 Square
5: triangle
6: X

When the ball mouse is rolled to the left it will move the ball to the left, tilting the bar, tilting the metal bar over onto the left, completing the circuit between the [] and positive (the two stripped ends of wire that arent touching), pressign the [] button, it will do the same for left, down , right etc.
This is how this mod works, the r trigger is just an ordinary momen tary switch.

This mod was invented by cyberpyrot, i wrote the tut.

You may wish to solder into mini usb ports if you dont want it hard wired :winker:

why not make the bar the ground ;)
it will be much easier

I think this a pretty cool mod, but I think it would be kind of hard to play something like an FPS game with it...unless you had something else that you could control all the other buttons with so you would not have to hold the psp with one hand...

But, very cool :) curious to see how this gets better

oh thats a-coming

yay, mabe a laser wireless mouse . lol make the psp completly moused with like 1 mouse for XO/\[] and R-L trigs, then another one for d-pad and start/select buttons... awesome. wireless would be ultra cool becase you would'nt need that lame cord and its sorta removable :yess:. Would it be posible for you to get up a vid of this in action :).
