two diffrent technologies one solid state memory (very expensive) other is a harddrive with platters relativly in expensive.

thats like me saying a mini bike cost's $200 so its not fair that a Ferrari costs $300,000.00

lets use our heads hear. also memory prices drop by almost 1/2 every 3 or 4 mounts. remember when the 8 gig cards came out they were close to $300.00

Solid-state flash memory is newer and much more expensive than platter-based hard discs. Given enough time, flash memory will eventually surpass platter hard drives in manufacturing efficiency and price. To draw a recent parallel, compare DVDs to VHS tapes. VHS tapes have been manufactured since the early-to-mid 80's, and they're still available in most stores. DVDs, on the other hand, began production around 1997(around-about). In a nutshell, thanks to high manufacturing/high demand, the prices on DVDs dropped below that of VHS tapes much more quickly than it had taken VHS prices to drop. DVDs are now much cheaper to produce than VHS(no moving parts, less material, easier to assemble).

Well, that's a rough comparison in a nutshell.

Its SSD and in an ipod, its HDD

SSD is alot more expensive, it has no moving parts, basically its a flash drive, but HDD is like a disk, with a laser

HDD has no lasers in it. At all. It uses magnetic fluctuations in the platter to read and store data.

i knew that....

well its a disk, and it has moving parts

and ssd is the one in usb sticks and memory sticks, you can even tell by the size, the hdd from a ipod is enormous compared to the tiny 8gb, and more compacted the technology is, more expensive, for example, slimmer phones with the same specs cost more
