EL wire
« on: December 21, 2007, 11:43:36 AM »
Hey all Im new to this site and I wanna do some cool lighting to my slim.

I wanna go with EL wire but I have no clue on how to wire it and what power source I would need to use.

If anyone used EL wire on a slim do you think you could fill me in?

Thanks.

Cool man thanks.

What about routing out the back of the PS2 and into the inverter and just right into the wall not even running off of the PS2 at all? Are kits available to plug into the inverter and then the wall?

Im still up for ideas on what type pf lights I wanna do. A part of me says LED but another says neons or EL wire or something.

Thanks tec. I seen the thread on your Fat PS2 and its kinda what gave me some ideas.

Do the inverters get hot like CCFL inverts do? I had CCFLs in my car ( angel eye headlights ) and those inverters got very hot.

i haven't had an issue with them (i have CCFL's lighting my trunk in my car and they don't get that hot) but any electronic component will get hot enough with extended use.

Thanks. Thats good to know, what brand CCFL+inverter did you use? I may switch to ccfl's if I can work around the inverter issue.

I know the experience I had is unrelated but those got really hot. I used the Umnitza brand and I had a pain finding a good spot that would stay cool seeing how hot they got to begin with. Plus they went under the hood of a V8, all the issues with heat and losing inverter after inverter made me give up.

What lightiing would you guys suggest?

Neon

EL Wire

CCFL

or LED

For some reason when I come to this thread I get a please sign in for neonstring.com. Why is that?

So back to the topic. LEDs huh? Any good ideas on how to make it really "glow" and a more even disspersment? I will be standing this one on a stand so I was kinda thinking on going back and switching out the bottom of the clear case to the OE black case's bottom with the LEDs on the side ( the bottom after its standing up ). They then would be pointing up but I am concerned with having spots of bright light wre the LED is located.

I would rather something be more uniform and appear as if the whole console is glowing.
