Retrocon Questions

Hey everyone

i've got some questions about the retrocon joysticks

i bought 2 from edhel, and i got them off the pcb
i made one of them digital (ty timmyDX https://www.acidmods.com/forum/index.php?topic=13500.0)


i'm going to connect it to the d-pad by using one of 's methods

BUT!! xD, which of the connections on the retrocon is what ??
this is a drawn picture from the downside of the retrocon joystick

which connection is what?
if u tell me the ground i can find out myself i think by using a multimeter

look at the pcb

should be not to hard to find out what the ground is
and as you already mentioned, you can measure the rest out, I think

if you've ever seen an retrocon joystick (not the whole thing just the joystick)

you'll see that it are just pins that are coming out
there is NO pcb

click the link from timmyDX tutorial and you'll see what i'm talking about

ok i found something

maybe D and G are ground (found this by testing)


when i push the joystick up there is a connection between D and E
when i push it down there is NO connection between D and C :S

same for F G H
when i press right there is a connection between F and G
when i push left there is NO connection between H and G


i still cant find out which connection is closed when i push on the joystick

Have you done a normal ps2 stick before?

Because i noticed that these ones work exactly oposite to them :P

I found out when i tried to put a normal ps2 stick in its place so i could still use the retrocon, but everything was backwards up=down left=right

I can tell you most of them by looking at the pic

D and G are the Grounds, they MUST be bridged (or soldered to teh same point on the powerboard or whatever)
A and B are the In Built Tactile switch, you dont need it unless you say have a pulse vu 2 installed and want it to be a mode switcher or jsut wire it to the start button or something
C E H and F all depend on how you position the joystick, for arguments sake lets jsut allow for you having the tactile switch up, ie when you push the joystick up your pushing towards the tactile

C = Down
E = Up
F = Right
H = Left

Yep, the exact opposite of what you would expect them to be

only 1 problem, actually 2 :P

only 2 directions work (tested it with multimeter)

Up works, and left works

could this be that i accidentaly cutted the potentionmeters :S?
they are still touching eacother but this is what happend (the red lines)

ok i got the other retrocon stick
and i made it digital, everything works except for 1 thing
when i connect it to the multimeter left works, right works, up works, except for down
when i connect the multimeter to ground and to the down wire, it immediately gives a connection(so closed circuit) but when i push the stick down it opens the connection :S instead of closing it

any idea of what is happening ?

That means that the Y axis strip (when it was analog) or ground strip for up and down now that it is digital is shorting with the down side of the Up/Down strip

if your multimeter has pins for testing, turn it off, and dip on of them in methylated spirits or similar, ONLY up to the tip, and put it in the small gap between the strips and then run it downwards lightly dislodging all debris.

then dry it and your multimeter with a piece of cloth

i fixed the problem (1 retrocon still not working)
the 2nd one is fixed

i opend the retrocon and cleaned it inside, and i cutted the gaps a little bit bigger
