PSP Problem, It's on a Phat PSP
« on: January 30, 2008, 04:10:40 PM »
Well guys, My Phat PSP is having trouble,  I can't figure it out but it just won't load UMD's...

It makes a load grinding sound for a bit and just never ever fully loads one,   I checked the gears path and there isn't anything in the gears.

I'm at a loss.  Any thoughts? I'll be happy to expound later.

Use a dremal and cut off the part where the gears are near. WHen you checked it, the faceplate wasnt on so there was no pressure pushing the gearing on to the plastic. After you cut if off, it should work.

While I appreciate this attempt.  I wrote the Clear Case tutorial!  Of course I've basically tried anything that would qualify as the "normal" reasons this would be happening..  It's not this.

maybe if what psp339 said didn't help, maybe you just need a new umd drive :hifive:

Try removing the drive and greasing up the gears, th drive doesn't work, so what have you got to lose. Hope it works :victory:

If there's a grinding sound, the gears must be encountering resistance. I once had a strand of hair blocking up the gears, and just by hooking it out, I managed to fix it (and save my customer a healthy 50 bucks)

it can be UMD power conector, check UMD rotation ,or try set power of laser with little pot on laser.

I have a very similar problem but it is caused by pressure. to assure this i took my UMD door off my psp and insertead a UMD. It worked fine. but i still am stuck with the pressure problem. that may be your problem.
