will this work?
« on: March 05, 2008, 01:54:34 PM »

a customer wants his triggers to
-react when sound
-normal on
-off

the wifi switch will be for on and off and the hold switch will be for reacting on sound and normal on

but i got a question
will the triggers be normal on when i solder the red wire to speaker + or sound reactive (since power runs from - to +)

or do i have to add another switch?

well if you think about it this way it makes sense and will help you wire it

ok fist off any wire that connects to the speaker's +ive connection is sound reactive, so you dont want it to be connected to that for normal mode

i am just going to think of how you would wire it and then i will get back to you

thanks

- i saw your using normal hold and wifi off and on, ill get to work now

the 2 leds need to be
-sound reactive
-normal on
-and off

and i've got the wifi switch (for on and off) and the hold switch to switch between on and sound

argh i just thought of a point that may make a problem for us,

here is what i was planning

power switch

pin 1 : N/A
pin 2 : +ive for normal, constant current, maybe from power board
pin 3 : -ive for both sound reactive and normal mode
pin 4 : +ive for sound reactive wired to speakers

the problem is the power board is like this, - i think

pin 1 : N/A
pin 2 : -ive
pin 3 : +ive
pin 4 : -ive

which would mean that we cant wire it to two separate power supply's which is needed for normal and sound reactive modes

i could try and think of a way to wire it to the hold switch somehow maybe but i dont think you can, as it would interfere

ill have a quick rethink and get back to you

i could use 4 leds instead of 2,..
so wifi would turn on and off sound reactive
and hold would turn on and off normal on

but i want to avoid using 4 leds, but if there isnt another way i would have no choice

well i have an idea but it would require wiring the led's to the power switch and the wifi switch in a weird and wonderful way

- does the hold function still need to work ?
- or can the leds be used but when the hold is on it is in one of the modes ?

so you are wanting to run it through two switches to turn it on?

the hold function will be taken out ;)
and there need to be 3 modes for the leds
-on
-off
-sound reactive
that's why i'm using 2 switches

I know how you can do it.I have done it before but didn't post it as I removed my sound mod(didn't use it at all :P )
So let me search and edit the image for you.
Here you are.Ready to go!!

Another edit: If it's not like the above description ( cause I can't remember ) then you'll have to use a different ground for the leds gnd and the 4th pin. But I'm like 80% sure it's done how I describe it now,so 1st try it that way and confirm to me. I think you get what I say right?
To make it more clear use led gnd for on/off function and the 4th pin gnd for sound react on/off.
Hope it helps, one of these 2 ways is the correct one :D 80% possitive for the edit way!
A tip for your gnd's  as you want them to function: Use the mobo's gnd for the 1st pin GND , the wifi switch GND for 4th pin sound react on/off and the hold GND for led GND on/off.
But I recommend to switch the wifi and the hold switches like hold for on/off and wifi for sound react, so that your customer can use wifi without the leds turning on if he doesn't and blah blah ,you get again what I want to say xD !!!!

i'm not using the lm386 chip for the sound mod,.. so

i'm wiring the leds straight onto the speakers

ok im sure that i figured out how you should wire it, let me make it on paint so you can see the wiring

ok here is what i have come up with

that will make it normal when power is in the normal position, sound reactive when in hold position and on and off is controlled by the wifi switch

i think i found a problem, not 100% sure

but isnt there power running through the wifi switch ;)? so when the leds will be sound reactive, they will have more power because they'll get power from the speakers, AND the wifi switch,..

ahh yes well if the trace is visible on the board then you could scratch it so it can be soldered to, before the switch and then wire it to the switch

basically if you can see the trace then scratch the top two lines and bridge it there then move the connectors to the top two pins so up is on and down is off, sorry about that

argh that is the only way and after a closer look it is possible but it will require some pretty damn good soldering

that would still have thesame problem,.. Right?

nice drawing u made there btw, you are a good helper

edit:
thesame problem with the power switch

where u use - on the power switch, there is usually + running through

it just cant be done with these 2 switches (and still have wifi always turned on)
or i should completely remove all the traces going to the wifi switch, and then solder the 2 traces for wifi always to be on together.

or use 4 leds instead of 2
2 leds to be on and of with wifi or hold
2 leds for sound mod on or off with hold or wifi

not if you scratch the trace and bridge the two traces before the switch ill take a pic now and show you what i mean

EDIT 1

ok so you remove the trace so it breaks the connection - where the red lines are

then on the side above the switch solder from trace to trace and wifi will be perma on and the wifi switch then wont control anything and you will be able to make use of all 3 pins +, -, and N/A so you can have on and off

EDIT 2

but if you want to play it safe, remove the switch and solder the two points on the board then solder the pins that hold the switch back on, the wifi will be on and the switch wont be connected to anything in effect that may be an easier way
