Hey
« on: March 15, 2008, 02:15:16 PM »
Hey guys, I've been around the modding scene for a few years, I have never had an xbox360 to mod but I got y first one in January, and now I've been working at a game store as a tech guy. Our store recently got an xbox360 with rrod and heavily damaged casing and burnt out resistor. (it would have cost us to much to fix) So I bought it from the store for 65 bucks and am putting 130 into it to fix it. So last night I ordered parts from llama.com including
5 blue smd led's for the power putton
xcm360 full replacement case-ocean blue
1 rrod clamp fix, I'll buy the other one at a hardware store cuz I meant to buy 2
articlean thermal compound remover-just cause
arctic silver 5 thermal compound
xcm xbox 360 window kit-hitachi
talismoon wisper max fan
clear fan duct

I got 3 day shipping, I can't wait to get it.
So I did good?

Two things:
1. Your name sounds familiar, like I've met yah in Runescape or something
2. Inserting any other fan in the Xbox 360 will get ya a good ol fashioned ban from the network unless it has the same specs as the xbox factory fan (I think). You can however, use an external power source for that fan if you still want to use it on the 360, w/o getting it banned.
3. (yeah there's a three lol) Welcome to AM, I hope you enjoy your stay with all the members ;D

Hey seikene, Yeah man I used to play runescape on r4p1d arr0ws, I still have my account but after all those updates that were pure crap, I stopped playing. So what's your name on runescape? Only people I used to play with were jc4me, ben truitt, and aurus shade, those were my main friends. So what voltage is the original fan? The one I ordered is direct replacement 5-12 volt.

the original fan was 5v but because it gets the 12v from the dvd drive power source so i think it should be fine on live not 100% though

just power everything external, its easier, the whispers use the same volts exactly, so should be fine, but LED's etc. go to external.

Danm I think either you pk'ed me or I pk'ed you at somepoint :P. My name was Rapidseiken. Oh btw, I was wondering what the point of the window kit is? I think I saw that on some guy's ebay store, the one posted in the auctions page.

I remember you now, your the guy who pked me full torags, yeah you said you would use no magic yet you still used that skull thing and cheated me, it was lame of you, it's ok though,  I don't care about that game anymore, and the window kit is for the dvd drive.

MR-7:THERE IS A EDIT BUTTON
Sorry for double posting, but I'm not gonna use this one on live I don't think, will microsoft still be able to brick my 360 from live without being plugged up to live?

if you are really concerned use the pins for the USB plug MS cannot monitor nor ban for USB voltage drops since USB can be daisy chained and MS has no idea what people plan on plugging in to the usb I charge my Ipod off the USB Port...Also be carfull somtimes the the rrod is not as simple as not beinf clipped there was an article about improper reflow process.

Generally the X-Clamp and some increased cooling fixes it.

Yeah but isn't that (and the "towel trick") apparently the only 2 ways to fix the RROD? and I still don't get it, for the dvd drive? As in it makes it look different or adds a window for it? Anyway I also can't remember myself using full torags :P, unless you mean top and bottom torags with a whip, then mabey. If I did, sorry :P, but in any case at least we can be good friends in Acidmods :D. Microsoft can still ban you if you have a higher voltage on different parts of the system though, right? like the fans? I'm sure it's true but I heard voltage drop and I thought they would also ban you for like a higher/lower then usual voltage drop.

I dunno, but cyber is right, they can't ban you for using the USB outputs for juice.

Is there any write-ups on this? I want to know if xboxlive would ban me. Anything proving the fans do this you know of?

get this, if your xbox has no conection (wireless or not) then microsoft has no way of monitoring you power usage on you xbox, so your safe with home modding

Well I might be selling it, so I don't want to screw the person I'm selling it to over. So is the dvd power safe to use? How would I use usb power?

for the usb power, find the usb plugs on the board and poke around there for a point with 5 volts
