[Help] Sound Reactive Mod
« on: April 12, 2008, 10:36:28 AM »
Well after an hour of searching I didn't find any answer, so I'm just going to ask. I have 4 red 0603 LEDs connect to a 10ohm resistor through my wifi switch on my PSP. And I saw a thread https://www.acidmods.com/forum/index.php?topic=17050.0
and was wondering if I can just solder my current LEDs directly to the speakers without the LM386 and the 33k, 191k resistor?
To state my question a little clearer...Is it possible for me to solder my current 4 red LEDs connected with the 10ohm resistor directly to the speakers with the wifi switch acting as the on/off LED switch?

Thanks in advance

no

-you wont need the 10 ohm resistor for the direct speaker sound mod
-you cant use the wifi switch with the direct speaker sound mod, because you will need to solder to the + and the - of the speakers so the leds react with the music

To all of you crying about lag and kicks, remember… when Jesus died, took him 3 days to respawn. Now THAT is lag.

thanks...
so "no" to using the direct speaker mod WITH the wifi?
or
"no" in general to everything?
if the first one then...to use the sound mod, I can't connect it to the wifi...then is there anyway that I can freely switch the LED on and off IF I directly solder it to the speakers?

you can use the hold switch instead of wifi. Search if your interested. If you do choose to use the hold switch, you will either only be able to have it on when hold is on, or disable your hold function permanetly (semi).

one last question, is it possible that my red LEDs would burn out from this direct speaker mod?

well, yes they will burn out, they run at like 1.2V, while the speakers pump out somwhere near 3.3v, they wont burn out if you use a resistor, to find out what resistor to use, i think there are some tuts in the begginers corner. so, dont lissen to sprocketme2, and dont wire them to the hold, there is probly some software someware that can help you turn them on and off.

no not 1,2 red ones ussualy require 2,2 V and the speaker at max volume pushes about 3-3,3V so you have to calculate what resistor u need using the resistance formula, Voltage suppluied - Voltage needed / current needed in Amps so 3,3V - 2,2V= 1,1V/ 0,08A (one led uses 20mA)= 13,75, so you will do fine with a 15-20ohm resistor

THAT is why I don't plan on putting any LEDs in my psp anytime soon.

thanks for all the help guys :yess:
ohh just wonderin by tibor28 formula, so I would need a 15-20ohm resistor for only one red LED ?_?

no thats for your four leds, for one led you would divide the end number only by 0,02A instead of 0,08A

thanks tibor28  :#1: , with your assistance I don't have to waste much time and effort doing the sound mod since I dont need to re wire everything for the LM386

so if i wanted to use 3 LED's it would be 18.3 ohm around there...
