you guys suck, you have me doing math and conversions

1 US gallon = 3.78541178 liters

so
$3.42 = 1 gallon
about (i rounded)
$0.90 = 1 liter

1 gallon = 1.73304956 British pounds
1 liter = 0.456065673 British pounds

i shall make it easy for me to buy a gallon at 105.9p/litle it would cost me about 400.9p = $7.942

so i basically pay double what you do for petrol and its at a cheep stage at the minute over christmas it was regularly like 112p+

I'd rather put it into how far I go on a dollar.
I go about 5 miles per dollar and drive at MINIMUM 20 miles a day.  Thats from Home>>School>>Work>>Home
Now the motorcycle on the other hand goes 12.5 Miles per dollar  :w00t:

i did all teh convewrsions (gas prices converted , my gallons to his pounds on how much it woukld cost to fill up  my car)
i did everything right cause my teacher hecked me
it would cost me in conversion to teh dollar abou700 to 800 bucks to fill up my tank

ok so lets say it cost 6 pounds per liter.. so then my cars 16 gallons would be 60.57 liters
so 6X60.57=363.42
ok so teh conversion rate would be
363.42£ =  719.06$

well i was a bit off owell lol

mexico uses gallons
i think

btw redo of my math
i tho it was about 6 buxcks cause when i was tehre it was 4
lol
ok so 1.50*60.57=90.85
so tehn the conversion from pounds to dollars would be
90.57£    = 179.76
and deisle here is at 4.21
and thats very exspensive

so this summer im gonna have to cut back on the joy riding and the pool
cause my prediction is that its gonna be about.. ohh 4 dollars to 4.90$
i want to go to mexico cause they have cheaop gas like about 2 bucks
man id love that now

america gest there gas from,
1. Canada
2. Mexico
3. Saudi Arabia
4. Venezuela
5. Nigeria
6. Angola
7. Iraq
8. Algeria
9. United Kingdom
10. Brazil
tahst liek the top ten of em...
not to mention we pump alot of our own too

the other thing you need to realize is that we turn around and sell the oil we buy. so its not like were using it all.

as for my opinions on why gas is so high blame lack of refineries and capitalism.

if you don't have enough refineries to make your fuel when one gos down because of a hurricane of course gas prices are going to go up.
and if OPEC cuts production of course prices are going to go up.

im for building more refineries, but capitalism is good and should not be messed with.

If your reffering to the fact that europeans use Bio-Diesel (ie: diesel made from hydro-carbon chains of plants such as canola and soybean)

...then its not superior at all, many nations from other continents use it

In fact the two msot efficient forms are Soybean, founded in japan, and Canola's form, found in australia for there commoness as a renewable plant source for fuel

But yes diesel is a very good fuel, but diesel vehicles are being made more high end which means they cost more which means you have to be able to afford the diesel edition of a vehicle you'd like (Turbo diesel will always be preffered :D)

So petrol is not for  :censored: 's its for people who need to save money

And unfortunately Diesel isn't cheaper everywhere, which makes no sense to me, as it needs less refining then unleaded  :sadno:

Yeah strangly, diesel is now more expensive then gas (in the state of Florida). My dad knew about how diesel can be cheaper in the long-term, even if the vehicle costs quite a bit. He drives a semi-truck (he's a truck driver), so imagine the costs on him when he fills the tank. He has to fill 100-300 gallons of gas at a time compared to the 10-20 gals that average people fill up. He has to go to a guy now, to get cheaper diesel, in a method that I rather not mention, but gets sold to bout 2.10-2.80 per gal.
Proud to be a: -Yugioh Player -ITG/DDR/PIU Player -Furry Fanatic - Knife Thrower -All around awesome guy :D

true

but, here in australia at least, they are developing special GM canola specific for the production of bio-fuel

so normal food production ones aren't heart

but then you go into the GM debate, bla bla bla etc etc etc

But the thing all these protesters dont realise is we've been using genetically modified crops for years, as have many contries, through the natural process of Mutagenesis (ie:Cross pollination)

but yeah there are other better forms of resource for powering engines such as elect- :censored: lets not get into that again :D

ia gree with u there and kinda dont timmy
see eithinol was teh wrong way to go
u get 1.3 units from every 1 unit of gas used to harvest it
not to mention the hallin it around
then u have a caddle feed shortage
i think of anything we should use switch grass or the husks and stalks of teh corn plant to use for fuel untill we can figure out wtf we are doing
see switch grass is VERY easy to grow
u can ignore it and it will grow
it grows all over the world
and u  get about 10-15 units per 1 unit of gas(switchgrass witch isnt used for feed or anything)

now heres something else i can bring up about
carbon dioxide emmisions
what reserachers have looked at was that if u have a 100 gallon tank of water and alge out in the desert or where it gets hot and very sunny
and pump the carbon dioxide pollutants into it
the alge just eats the carbon dioxide right up and multiplys
and when teh alge is spent or old it will collect at the bottom of teh tank and can be harvested for reburning (witch can be used back into carbon dioxide alge tanks)
when it comes out it looks liek oil because it is a synthetic oil so we can reuse it in cars or automobile uses
or we can put it into our food with all the proteins it has or put it into our caddle feed
i know what ur saying eww oil in our food(theres a chem break down they can do for the oil to proteins part) so yea all they need is to basicaly bottle up all the co2 emissions ion the smoke stacks and sell it for reuse at the alge farms
infact they are already building a few hundred aker alge farm right now

Re: OUCH!!

yeah

but canola is eassy to grow as well, its not going to be the best solution for countries that dont grow it, its just it grows EVERYWHERE here, bio-D's ideal  resource will vary depending on the agricultural state of the country using it.

The carbon dioxide algae-solution is good in theory, but putting it into practice would cost a lot for every country involved, and then you have the problem of sucking it from the air, and making sure that you don't suck everything else from the air, and carbon dioxide is necassery for the existance of the biosphere as well, plants need carbon dioxide to undergo photosynthesis to produce oxygen....which we need at this point in time, and the suction pump may take that from the air, and even if they filtered off the CO2 and emitted the oxygen, you gety more and more costs

and then you go into the fact that all greenhouse gasses occur naturally except CFC's , therefore you have to make sure you dont go to the other extreme of LACKING them, like cows are the current highest source of methane in the atmosphere due to there :censored:

bottom line is theres going to be negatives with any solution, its just a question of which is going to make the LOWEST impact

Current Situation: CO2  , Fuel Costs

Hydrogen Cells (Burning) = Carbon MONOxide becomes an issue

Hydrogen Cells (Water Vapour) = Water vapour is the most common naturally occuring greenhouse gas, accounting for ~90% of natural greenhouse gas, whats going to happen if we through out that balance? History repeats itself, Carbon dioxide levels were fine + industrial revolution = Coal burning + CO2

Biodiesel = Economy, Agriculture, erratic according to country for reliability

Electricity = Economy, Battery deterieration

etc etc etc

but the thing is the alge idea is in the works
infact they have proved it works
and i think it was txu or somthing that has bought the rights to it
and its relitivly inexpensive
we realy only need to worry about what we are puttin out from COAL and other burning sources like office buildings and what not
see no matter what u do u will have co2
so tahst not a very big factor right now
see puttin the co2 up there is the easy part lol
reducing it is teh hard part

but that still doesn't help the long term effects on photosynthesis, and unless its solar powered, its going to be using electricity which can probably be traced back to a coal mine D:

what i meant by expenses, is, think about it, a small scale working experiment would be inexpensive, but national and then global scale.....it becomes VERY expensive + filtration to make sure CO2 is all it takes and that it doesn't go to far etc

so setting up pumps....

in all the industrialised nations in the world

then buying land to keep the algae tanks in which can withstand teh carbon dioxide of an entire coal plant for an AREA within a country

then long term storage facilities for algae that is in a preparation state for commercial use

and paying employees to run these facilities

would be cheap  :boxed:

*sigh*

where did i say they were doing a bad job? where did i say i have a better idea? where did i say they aren't trying? Where did i say it wouldn't create jobs? Where did i say ethanol is a fantastic idea that is flawless? Where did i say it wouldn't get tried (the seaweed one)?

I basically meant we cant blame them no matter what they choose  :winker: , believe me im on your side in the scenario of people complaining about politics and politicians when they cant do better, but again, im not claiming i can, and this is more a political discussion then a :censored:ing session, or at least thats what i thought it was?

because like it or not, good ideas are going to have problems

Einstein Discovers theory of relativity, huge scientific breakthrough = nuclear weapons are invented as a result, is it so wrong to see the flaws in scenarios? is democracy not based on supply and demand? therefore to be a supply there must be demand, part of the demand process is public opinion.

Anyway, WHAT ARE YOU DOING ON LINE, STUDY FOR YOUR TESTS

cause that works for some one like me that has 30+ miles to go between school work and home every day. i would need at least 2 hours in between locations. and what happens during the winter when there is snow on the ground and its -20 degrees F.

bikes may work for some people, but its just not practical for me.

Hydrogen is the way to go. Oceans will be here as long as we are.
