I'll say dell, but only if you get some of their expensive hardware at a good discount.  If you are going to Uni you can get some great deals.  I got 600 bucks off of 1550 just in their school discount alone...

i can't speak for anything but HP and all of my experiences with them are BAD. i would suggest staying away from them at all costs.

Alienware is way overrated..... If you are rich, buy a macbook pro, if you are poor, HP, ive had great experiences with them, but dont try to go out and go gaming on it....

i hate macs but for you I've found this 15.4-inch MacBook Pro w/ Parallels 3.0 for $1499 at MacMall 
edit: just found this which is what I'd go for XPS M1530 Core 2 Duo Notebook PC $520 off at Dell Home

well imo one of the best for <800 is the toshiba satellite, its pretty good. mines got 1g ram 140g HDD 3.6g CPu(1.8 Dual core) and 256m video card. got it for 600$

but anything >800 go with the macbook pro or alienware
