simple, yet awesome psp mod
« on: August 23, 2008, 11:02:38 PM »
ok so here's what I'm thinking:

I know there was a thread about this before, but when I went back and searched, I couldent find it. Anyway what I was thinking was psp lights that come on automatically in the dark. I know this may sound useless, but think of the uses: when your in bright light or sun when you wouldent be able to see the triggers anyway, they won't come on therefore saving battery. And in he same way, they will automatically turn on when the light is low enough to really see the show.

You could also put a switch so you could bypass this feature and turn them on whenever you want I think.

I think it should be pretty simple if its anything likethose automatic night lights. They only consist of one transistor and a photoresistor. Anyway I just need to know which parts I would need and how to wire them up. I already have the photoresistor.

Thanks.

It is a very simple circuit

Use a Photo Transistor

It turns on in the presence of light. You are just looking to use it backward
so your circuit turns on when there is no light.

Thanks for the replies.  Hey tripsalot, when i click onthe link you sent me,it only goes to a page full of code. anyway i thimk i know what to do now. I  think i just need to go to radioshack and get some NPN transistors. OHwell theyre only like $3 for a bag of 15.

yeah, kink192 is already working on that.(not for psp....now that i know) He was wanting to make it a secret, but he told me just to go ahead and tell everybody. He just needs to get a part from school to finish his psp gamecube controller up.

Great idea

sorry mate, gamecube controller not psp. yeah i was working on this last year in school and got screwed over when i broke my finger and couldnt work on it. i forgot to take it home after school ended as well. but you guys are on a good track, all i used for mine was a 3904 transistor, photo resistor, and variable resistor. i cant remember the pin out, but i know that on the middle lead of the transistor you attach the photoresistor/phototransistor, then also put it to the middle lead on the variable resistor, put + on one end of the resistor, and - on the other, and the photoresistor goes to negative i believe

The transistor has three legs. Them emitter, collector, and base.

You tie the collector to ground.
You tied the emitter to the ground of your leds

You hook one end of the photo resistor to ground, the other end to the base of the transistor.

You hook the center wiper of the potentiometer to power, one end of the potentiometer
to the base of the transistor.

You cover the photo resistor so no light gets to it.

Adjust the potentiometer until your leds turn on.

Let light get to the photo resistor and your leds should turn off.

Thats all there is to it. Just use a 2n2222 or equivalent NPN transistor

all the same parts [sides the 2n2222] just configured differently...damn i feel bad now, you guys make it look like its some super amazingly easy task, but, im still proud of myself for doing it, had to plan it out all on my own, make the vero board pattern on my own, even found a way to do it with a nand gate

Its not that simple to figure out on your own.

I have just done it before.

Besides, many of the simple things I put up here are things I have done before, or I
was able to get out of one of my engineering handbooks.

You can also find just about any circuit you want on the internet.

You just have to learn how to search for it properly, the problem is there is
just to much information on the internet to search through

ok I have one transistor they is an NPN type. I washust wondering if it would work. The markings look as follows:     S8050
                          D 139

I need to know if this works before I go and buy more. Also if it won't, what are the equivalents to the 2222 one?

Yes it will work.

The transistor you listed is.

LOW VOLTAGE HIGH CURRENT
SMALL SIGNAL NPN TRANSISTOR

General purpose switching transistor.

It will work just fine.

hmm that's wierd because I hooked it up like I found on the internet and I couldent get it to work. I think I did it right. Anyway I think it would help if I could get a diagram on how to hook it up to an led and a photoresistor and have it work.
