PSP DC socket

I just went to charge my phat psp and noticed that the dc plug wont go fully into the port on the psp. There is a piece of metal sticking out into the socket area, the metal seems to go inside the psp so something seems to have slipped. Add to that my psp wont turn on at all. I have managed to charge the battery but the psp still wont switch on.

Has my power board dead or has something slipped out of position. I'm good on the software side of psp's but hardware im abit noobish on any help would be most appreciated. I've tried searching this problem but the keywords im using bring up sooooo much useless info i have decided to ask in a thread.

a picture of the loose piece of metal would reallyhelp diognose the problem. Sounds like the psp is shorting out at the dc plug.

What mine is like blocking the dc connector getting in firmly:

That is the negative contact in the power connector. It contacts the outside barrel
of your power plug. It would seem that your power plug is defective and you will
need to get another one. There are many for sale in the auctions section of this
board.

Try unplugging the power connector from the power board in your PSP and then try
powering it. It may be that the outside barrel connector is shorting to the positive
and that is why your PSP won't turn on.

Its not the cable itself because i tried a different one. I'll pop me psp open see if its something i can just adjust to fix or just buy a new power board like you say.

You don't need a power board, just the power plug from what you are saying

yes just ask over at the auctions for a power plug, its a seperate unit that pops into a connector in the mobo.

Ahh cool, was getting abit confused when you said power plug know what you mean now  I'll try getting one asap, might replace the phats case seeing as im opening it up.
