MIC reactive LEDs.
« on: September 04, 2008, 04:14:17 PM »
Hey,

I was wondering how you could make lights that respond to the sound of your voice from a microphone. Could you just wire it as the audio input on an lm386? If so, I don't see why nobody has done it before.

Because...there's no point to it?
Yea, you could probably do it that way.

what is that? It sounds like a kids toy? Anyway I tried it with the mic direct connected to the audio input of the lm386 and it didnt work. No light at all. I know the lm, light, mic all work because I tested them seperatelly. Any ideas on how to get it to work?

mine works on my slim I have a mic wired up and amps wired to the heaphone jack I can use the amped speakers for my Ipod just by pluging into headphone port on psp psp dosent even have to be on and when I use my mic LEDs react but thats because the psp reads my voice then sends it to the headphone amps and those amps also drive my LEDs I really dont see why direct wire dosent work but this is better anyway because the mic is functional too

Hmmm I wonder why it didnt work for me if it worked for you? Somthing I knoticed a while back was this: when I had my amp and led hooked up to my isymphony speakers and an external power source, it worked fine. But when I hooked up the lm386 to the isymphony's power supply or when the speakers were turned off while hooked to the external source, the light would react to sound. Like when I would slide the speaker on the table or blow into it. Didnt react to regular voice though. The isymphony has no mic. This means that the speaker was acting as a mic. Mabey if I hooked the mic to the lm386 output, I could get it to react to sound? I guess I'll try after class tomorrow. Thanks for the replys.

Folklord: could you post a schematic of how you have it hooked? Mabey I'll copy what you did if it really works. I just think it will be cool if my psp lights would react to my voice.

gr8npwrfl: where could I get my hands on one of those mr. Microphone toys? Mabey I'll reverse engineer it and put it in a psp! LOL.

make sure you wired it right, it doesn't sound like you did.

(Supply +) ----- (Mic -) ----- (Mic +) ----- (Led -) ----- (Led +) ----- (Supply -)

not

(Supply +) ----- (Mic - & Led -) ----- (Mic + & Led +) ----- (Supply -)
