well im not even sure if this project will work so for now its just an idea and unless i gather parts then i cant continue. so those ribbon cables dont exist anywhere then huh? anyone?
If you are looking to rearrange all of the PSPs innards inside a custom case, this can also be done by soldering wires to short strips of ribbon cable salvaged from broken LCDs or other electronics. You can then extend the wires in whatever length and direction you want to. All you need is a few small strips of ribbon cable, (there should be some people on the site here who can get you these from broken PSP LCDs) and some 30 awg wire. This also saves the trouble of having to create a custom PCB to break out the opposite end of the ribbon cable, as the wires can be directly soldered to whatever the application requires. You can also eliminate the powerboard entirely this way if you are planning to use a different set of buttons. I made a breakout board a while back using this technique, the photos are a bit low res but hopefully you can see what I am talking about. The control input on this board is routed to a 25 pin D-Sub connector that connects with a modified PS2 controller. To modify the controller for this purpose you will have to hard-wire all of the button and analog stick lines individually through a cable with a sufficient wire count (parallel printer cable works well) so they can be matched with the button and analog stick lines from the PSP. The thread with the controller pinout info that Alien mentioned is here.
Also, Dazzer, if you post the pin count for the connectors you need, I will find them asap

Check Blizzrads pinouts thread, very very helpful also.
