New project! PSB* (ideas)
« on: October 27, 2008, 08:04:57 AM »
I have drawn an idea for a new PSP setup but i need help! Inspired by Alien_X's post here, i need the ribbon cables for the LCD and Powerboard -> mobo cable. not the small ones, the ones like Alien_X has used in his pictures.
Does anyone know where i can get any?

Also, is there some sort of tut about using a PS2 controller with the PSP.

Thats all the help i need at the minuite.

Thanks
Dazzerr

NOTE: this project is secret and i will not reveal it until it happens. This project will only happen if i have the money to do it so so far this project is just and "Idea".

Have a look at the official post in the PSP Section.
I can find you the ribbon cables, but the Componant supplier will only take payment from credit card with a minimum order of £20.

The tut for connecting it up hasnt been made, you basically just wire it point to point, I can help you with that if you want via this topic, or MSN.

Don't make projects secret, tell us  :w00t:

well, its basically a PSP re-desgn. using my laser cutter and mould i will be able to make a really good design, but like i said. i got the machines but i need the materials. But for the re-design the LCD will need to be maybe 1foot away from the mobo? i need a load of ribbon cables that will fit the psp stuff really.

By the way PSB meanss PlaysStationBox. Not that good a name but ah well...

lol

If you are looking to rearrange all of the PSPs innards inside a custom case, this can also be done by soldering wires to short strips of ribbon cable salvaged from broken LCDs or other electronics. You can then extend the wires in whatever length and direction you want to. All you need is a few small strips of ribbon cable, (there should be some people on the site here who can get you these from broken PSP LCDs) and some 30 awg wire. This also saves the trouble of having to create a custom PCB to break out the opposite end of the ribbon cable, as the wires can be directly soldered to whatever the application requires. You can also eliminate the powerboard entirely this way if you are planning to use a different set of buttons.

I made a breakout board a while back using this technique, the photos are a bit low res but hopefully you can see what I am talking about.

The control input on this board is routed to a 25 pin D-Sub connector that connects with a modified PS2 controller. To modify the controller for this purpose you will have to hard-wire all of the button and analog stick lines individually through a cable with a sufficient wire count (parallel printer cable works well) so they can be matched with the button and analog stick lines from the PSP. The thread with the controller pinout info that Alien mentioned is here.

That board is just so awesome, every time I see it my jaw drops  :faint:
But I still think those breadboards suck, even though it is nice to be able to route underneath them.

Also, Dazzer, if you post the pin count for the connectors you need, I will find them asap

So can i just solder wires from certain pinouts on the PSP (e.g: []) to the pinout on the ps2 controller ([])

Where is that thread??
