Q about conecting controllers to controllers (pcb to pcb)
« on: November 27, 2008, 09:27:08 PM »
to explain better, say i wanted to play NES games with an N64 controller. what i would do, is wire the PCB of the n64 to the pcb of the nes in the right places, right? well, my main question is, what about voltage? does voltage need to be running to the N64 controller, or does that even matter, as long as voltage is running to the nes controller?

and don't worry, i got pics of what to sauder where, i just need to know about voltage and grounding.

and no, i don't want to play nes games with an N64 controller, but if this WILL work, my first project will be a real winner.

post pics...
if you are thinking about newer consoles i doubt it will work because of the way that they have to pair with the console but for older consoles as long as the power and data cables are correct than there should be many problems... my im is vuribe1221@gmail.com if you need more info or whatever...

chances are that the voltages are both 5v for wired controllers, and 3V for wireless. as long as you voltages are the same and the controllers are same wiring style, just make sure to hook you ground together so both controllers have there voltages referenced to the same spot.

there are controllers that this will be easy for, and there are controllers that this will be difficult. I'd suggest making sure that you use a common ground style controller.  In this case all you would have to do is make sure your grounds are hooked between the two boards, and one line for each button that you wish to use.

another way to do it is to just cut traces and wire the target controller's buttons in parralell with the controller's pcb that you are using to interface with the console. with this method you are essentially just hi-jacking the controllers hardware (buttons)
