I need some help on with my OS

Ok, I have a windows XP ISO (Please wait until I finish explaining before going OMG ILLEGAL). It's a legal back-up snd here's the reason why I'm not using the disc. My laptops DVD Drive is messed up, and the whole computer needs something other than Vista to run on it. I can run it by using MagicDisc, but it won't let me replace it. How do I install it? I can't run the linux installer so I can't use that. Help anyone?

You want to install XP using a drive emulating program? Is that what you mean? Install the ISO without using the drive? That's what I got out of this. If I'm wrong let me know.

Not possible(If I understood it right).

No, it's possible because it goes to install. But windows just blocks it before installing becasue it's downgrading.

No. It will start and run, but you won't be able to install it.

And, to do that downgrade you would need to format and install XP.

No matter what you need the dvd drive.
Unless you just run XP as a guest OS in VMware

No. I tried using my windows vista upgrade (again it's a ISO backup) and I done most of it, but i cancalled because i relised that my computer can barely handle this. it had done the reboot part and everything.

It shouldn't let you do that...That's essentially not possible...

The program is emulating the drive and running the ISO.
You run the ISO and install the OS over it.
Program can't run cuz the files are being overwritten,deleted,etc.,etc. because the new OS is being written.

I don't know how you did that but wow...

I don't know how to bypass that, though. I thought you were talking about something else obviously. Lol.

get a nice, cheap, yet working, external CD drive and use a cd...

memaw got an eeepc and did that to load lots of software, worked fine

Lol I would if I could. But I'm getting NO money in whatsoever, and when I start to It'll be for a Xmas present for my dad, the amount of support I have gotten from him. But afyer Xmas I'll see what I can do.

And I think I know how it works. It installs the install files. Then you reboot, and you boot the installer. You don't need the drive emulator. Get what I'm staying?

Maybe. I don't know.
There's got to be some workaround. I checked google and got nothing but activators and how to install XP after having Vista...

dude does ur laptop support booting off the usb? if it does grab a usb and copy your xp cd contents over to it and then you will have to change some files in it to make it work and bootable....try to google that....

Kicks is Correct. You Could Have the Image on the USB but It Wont make it Bootable. So here.
