HELP: external USB hard drive not being recognized
« on: December 18, 2008, 08:33:17 AM »
I am trying to hook up my MyBook 320GB external hard drive with USB 2.0 connectors and its not getting recognized by the 360. :dntknw: Its connecting to the back USB port right above the ethernet port. would leaving the MS hard drive cause this? any thoughts how I can get this to work? i'm sick of still using a 10GB hard drive (yes you read that right, 10GB) and don't feel like blowing ~$140 on a bigger one if I can connect a different one.  :beg: :help:

Whats the HDD format ? Maybe the format you have it in can't be recognized or its too big. When I plug an Ipod in, it only looks at the stuff ON the ipod and excludes everything else which is on the disk space.

if your on xp go to start->control panel-> administrative tools-> disk manager(i think or go to removable drives)-> click on your hdd and format..........once formatted it should be recognized...but you WILL lose all data on the hdd

I dont think you can use any thing other than a actual 360 hard drive or a memory card to store data for the 360 on. Let me know if you do get it to work though...

I remember reading somewhere that you can spoof the 360 with a certain model of Western Digital HDD.  I believe people were doing it over at xbox scene, but then again it may be a figment of my imagination.

Also If I remember correctly it will only work for up to 120gb as that is the biggest drive M$ makes for these.  Also it isn't just a swap there is formatting/copying that needs to happen.

you need to use a prog called  MAC DRIVE and format the usb drive to HFS+  then you can use it for movies and music (divx, wmv-HD).  I use a 500gb usb WD drive.

after you format it to HFS+ you will be able to use the usb drive on pc, mac, and 360.  also NFS+ removes the file size limit.

its funny to me that the 360 can read a apple format (NFS+) and not ntfs

ill try to check back today before i leave, cause im gonna be gone for atleast a week.

THIS CANT BE USED AS A REPLACEMENT FOR THE 360 HDD!!
