two quick questions for my hero's
« on: January 12, 2009, 03:55:24 AM »
heyo had a couple questions if someone can give me a hand here :) .I ordered a shell for my second project in works with my other project ( second project is a secret shhhh)  and i got it from deal extreme. now i hate to flame, but is it  just me or do they sell the worst built shells ever? it took me 5 hours of alterations and it still wont fit  right. It jams all the home ad sound buttons down and wont even close all the way.  i dunno whether its just a bad apple shell or what but my question is has anyone else had this problem with deal extreme shells? and if so do you guys know the best place to by shells?

im thinking of cool mods but after this deal extreme experience im a bit nervous to order a new one from anywhere lol.

also was wondering if anyone had a picture of the 5v spots for soldering leds  to the motherboard, to many leds (shhhhh secrets :) ) tried the search but all that came up was unrelated  questions to dead mobo's :P

thanks in advance guys  :drunk:

I'd get it from. COolmods. They are high quality but you may have to malena few minor adjustments. Coolmods is a bit expensive though and it's in the UK. I don't have the pic for the 5v point but it is on the site somewhere. I bet someone will post it right after me so don't worry.

i'd say both DX and coolmods can be very similer. i've only had a few problems with shells from dealextreme, nothing major, same with coolmods. thrid party cases will not fit as well as the OEM versions, it's just the way it is.

Here's a pic showing where you need to solder the positive wire too;

Yeah man I'd stick with DealExtreme. Coolmods and Dealextreme both sell cases of similar quality, although Dealextreme just seems to have less quality control. Coolmods might be more durable, Idk, but in terms of fitting, they're both very similar. I got a coolmods faceplate for 35 bucks that I just can't get satisfied with the fitting. Then I hear people getting 10 dollar faceplates off dealextreme fitting fine...

Every once and a while DX lets out a bad case, contact them and say whats wrong with it see if you can get it replaced. (Ive done it)

Also it takes some time getting it perfect...

As we said, they cannot be perfect, and there will always be imperfections - some greater than others.

Think being the key word, only say something about a company unless you KNOW. Thanks...

And there is NO such thing as a case that is even 50% perfect..

Except OEM Sony ones. But good luck finding those in any color other than black. They are extremely hard to find anyway.

Thanks apheX for the pic and thanks for all the info guys  :tup: just didnt know how common it was for custom shells, turned out the most of my shell problem was the faceplate itself and trim. :rofl:

Yes, mine is. I custom painted an OEM Backplate and bought an Asterix faceplate that matches the backplates cover, and It fits PERFECTLY.  :tup:
