Problem with R trigger
« on: January 15, 2009, 05:22:24 PM »
Well the problem is that it's always being pressed down. When I boot my PSP it goes into recovery menu without me pressing the button and in the web browser I just get a million spaces. It's nothing to do with the trigger itself because I've taken it out and still had the same problem. This is really annoying me and it needs fixing. Any help is appreciated.

might be dust in the connectors to the mother board, or the connector from the trigger to the power board. try and clean them. if that fails, get a new conductive set of ribbon cables from Dealextreme.

Yeah I had the same problem too, tried reseating and everything. I just replaced the ribbon and it worked. I think I fiddled around with it too much or something.

I tried cleaning all the connectors but it didn't work. I tried switched the ribbon cable with a spare one that I had. It didn't work either. WTF

maybe a little pice of solder or wire is stuck between your triggers pin and a ground causing that proble just clean the connectors

I found the problem. It's something to do with the actual ribbon cable. It's because I've played around with it to much or something the R button has become really sensitive (just by luck I had 2 ribbon cables with the same problem). I've managed to get it to not be held down all the time. But in order to press it now I have to press really hard. Kinda annoying but it's better than it not working at all. So to fix this I think I'd need a new ribbon cable which is a pain in the ass because this is the 4th ribbon cable I'm going to have to buy >.>

In total ive used more than 30 because of various reasons, soldering iron randomly touching it for less than a second, it goes near my glue gun, randomly stops working because it feels like it, etc

i had a similar problem when i bought a used/broken one locally.
it originally only had a cracked screen.

I disassembled to check out the internals and found out that the R trigger kept pressing after putting it together.

Turns out that it was the cable (but haven't done any mods to it yet).

if you look closely at the R trigger pad, there is a little plastic that juts out a little bit.
For me at least, if it was out of the way or not tucked in, it prevented it from triggering the button.

Bought the cable for nothing :)

Button works perfectly now.
