« on: January 17, 2009, 07:22:22 PM »
Well i'm planning on building my own PC so list some good average priced stuff that would be good for a new pc.

The processor is going to ba a Intel Core i7 (Definately gonna be overclocked)
Now I need a good graphics card
Hard drive is going to be 3 1tb hard drives (equalling 3 terabytes)(not sure on brand though)
gonna have 2 DVD read/writers
still thinking on every thing else

The processor is going to ba a Intel quad core clocked at 3.2 ghz probably gonna overclock it though.
Get an i7 based PC, just wait for it to go down in price, since it JUST came out

THe cheapest one (920) is at standard 2.66Ghz, and it can overclock to 4.2Ghz ON AIR!!!

And I think it was bit-tech that did a test with i7 and core2 and the 920 had better benchmarks than the core 2 extreme (I think)

But its ALOT faster, and the 920 at the moment isnt that much more than a Core 2 Quad

 :censored: ING HELL!

And if you want to be a bit of a show-off put some CCFL's in. Makes any computer look awsome.

yeah go i7 as the cheapest i7 processor beet the best quad core on benchmarks. and if your wanting to overclock the asus extreme board is designed for overclocking so that would probably be a good choice

i am not responsible for what i do or my advice

Yeah one of my mates built a machine with a 920 in, and he told me once he managed to get it at 4.2Ghz it blew his core 2 quad 4gb machine out the way into the water

He gets around 65 FPS on crysis on top graphics now (he is still using his older graphics card, he gets around double the fps now)

It's cheaper I know, but it's not a good idea buying i7,

You've got to think about x58 base and LGA1366 socket,

OC it with flourinert (forgot what it's called, used in the cray 2 super computer) it's basically like pouring water over your cmponents. It's just damn expensive. But that would be awesome. Google Armari XCP and you should find an awesome computer that uses t.

x58 base doesn't screw with anything, and there's plenty of aftermarket 1366 fans and even watercooking blocks already.
Core i7 is THE best CPUs out there and the smartest choice in CPUs. What on earth are you talking about.

Not entirely true, there are not a lot of programs that take advantage of quad core processors. Im not trying to belittle the i7 but you have to take in to account what you’re going to use it for.  You can build a kick a$$ rig with a duel core, its not going to be a powerful, but it can still own

Core i7 has 4 cores...

Im just trying to save you some money. There isn’t much sense in dropping four grand on a rig when you can have one that kicks just as much A$$ for half the price.

Im not denying the fact that the i7 is amazing. Im just saying there is no point in having four cores when there are about 12 programs that actually utilize all four cores.

but if your going to go all out this is the way to go

i7 3.2GB
asus board
12GB DDR3
2x 4870 x2
2 1.5 tb HDD
1 250 GB SSD (boot drive)

and all with out an OS, disk drive, or a case

Tec_ there's no point in having all that crap you showed. You don't need an SSD, i7 Extreme, or the most expensive ram for it to be good.

tec_ also said, if you are going all the way out
that means, no money limit etc..

and i might add to that, if you are going all the way, get the Nvidia GTX295, or wait untill june for the new ATI Graphics cards ;)

you do if you want a 7 second boot time

and frankly im concerned if you think that equipment is crap

exactly what i was thinking

All of this proving my point that no one read my post earlier saying that you don’t need an i7 to have a good computer. A Q6600 would also provide a nice system for about $200.00 less just on the processor.

and at dutch is the GTX295 better than the 4870x2 ? i dont know

Even dual core would still be good enough (i got a E8500 on 4.5ghz and still owning so ;) )
anyway here are some benchmarks of the gtx295 and 4870x2

I recommend the Asus P6T Deluxe Mainboard. Thats what I'm getting. Its made for the i7 CPU, supports overclocking and the the specs said "Taking only 5 seconds to go online from bootup"

You can't have a 5 second boot time because of the motherboard only.
Boot time is dependent on harddrive, OS, mtoherboard, CPU, and RAM.

Tec_ I'm not saying those parts are crap. I'm saying you don't all of that stuff for it to be good. I'm building a Core i7 later this year also. It's gonna be sweet.

if you use a SSD you can get your boot times down to 7 seconds. not even A western digital raptor can do that

Id rather get an i7 and a core 2 extreme, I personally feel the box looks alot better with the i7s aswell (looks like it has space invaders on the box)

all im trying to say is that you don't have to get a i7 to have a good computer. i never said it wont make a good computer. you will end up spending about $2500 to $3000 if you do get a i7 ware you could spend $1500 to $2500 and have a computer that acomplishes the same thing.
