Xbox 360 Replacement parts?
« on: February 12, 2009, 01:37:09 PM »
Hey guys i was putting in some blue leds into my wired controller controller and i accidentally melted the plastic part of the joystick that goes into the thumbstick grip with my soldering gun. Does anyone know where i can get replacement joysticks?
I'll post pictures later, I have to go to swim practice now.
Thanks,

Is it really bad? because it might take a while to change the thumsticks.

Llamma has some, Some shop RSX has em, google: analog thumbstick replacement.  I believe you can use em off and old xbox controller or a PS2 controller if you have some old or scrap ones. or you could buy a broken controller  :winker:

They are pretty simple to replace, they just come straight off, might be some glue but they'll come off and what is left on the controller board will look like this:

You can resize images by using the code [ img width = 500 ] *image link* [ / img ]

Just remove all spaces except for the one between IMG and WIDTH.

wow, good one  cant go wrong with gameroms deal. my first post has link to that part(click pic) from mouser.... $8 for a new one.  Personally I would buy a used controller and "harvest" the replacement.

I agree, thats a nice deal, the problem is, he most likely wont get it off without destroying the controller LOL. I think the odds favor Gameroms. LOL Good luck

I did not know you could buy those. I am going to order a dozen of these! thats the problem, I spend alot of time modding a controller to my liking, but after prolonged use the sticks just get wore out. lean to one side, loose responsiveness, etc. good find thanks chives.

good will, please dont be offended by what I said, it is a dificult task for any new modder. that being said, I got $20 on gameroms...(that gameroms wont have to pay up, becouse he probably wont successfully get it off) any one up for that action??......LOL

 I don't know Matt, I think with proper coaching and tools(cough* solder sucker cough*/) most anyone could remove those.  I know I was suprised how easy they were to remove, and I think I remember you saying the same thing......... :eyebrow: However I think probably our skills are a little more robust then the average bear's, that being said, dont know if I could lay down that bet.

and you can thank CyberPyrot for finding those, he mentioned to me that he had seen them when we were searching of new and innovative switch ideas.  Double check that the Footprint is correct in the specsheets before ordering tho, you never can tell just by looking at the piccy.  Also huge price break at 100 pieces ($2.60/piece) if you can find someone to spit the order you can get 36 for roughly the price of 12 individual ones  :winker: (might want to start with one to make sure)

LOL how did I know that was coming LOL, still its not an easy task, well it actually wont be bad if you are going to throw it away. but to try and take it off without damaging it is not easy.

I was just having some fun, gameroms post sounded like a chalange and I love a good bet. LOL

a piece of advise, remove the pots first then desolder and remove the stick. dont force it, you dont want to peel up the trace going to each of the many trough hole solder joints.
