hot glue + clear things = tacky?
« on: February 13, 2009, 01:30:32 PM »
Is it just me, or does hot glue look really weird on clear things? like if you don't apply the hot glue really really accurately and with the exact same amount on every led you're putting into your console, doesn't it look asymmetrical, and weird? Anybody else have this problem, or know a solution? here's an example - a pic of my clear gameboy that I used leds and hot glue in...

Yes. That's why most people don't use hot glue on clear things. It's virtually impossible to make it not look messed up from it.

Any alternatives to hold things down on a clear case?

I would have glued the leds to the circuit board.

The best way to do it with hotglue

Get a rotary tool, drill a tiny dent for the led, put the slightest amount of hotglue

Place led, then it should spread across the whole clear case and there wouldnt be any visible hotglue

Hoi! Pinoy ako!

i use a super glue that whittles down to a small layer from the blob you put on there

also make your led locations a bit smarter

it wont look so wierd if you put the led's right in the corners and against the edges and such

But yeah the ideal glues are the "gooey" super glues rather then runny ones and epoxy's such as araldite

hot glue is good for a quick hold but its not incredibly durable and there are certain surfaces it will damage and some it wont stick to at all.

epoxy works well... you need only small amount of it and it holds VERY well... but it sucks if you fail with it coz theres no way gettin it off nicely...

lol thx guys... Any recommended super glue or will any work? Also Timmy, about location, I wanted to put it at edges but both sides weren't symettrical and so I couldn't make it look good.

Some are. Also i recommend Nail Glue, its used in like salons and nail parlors its super strong, spreads on the wires, and pretty invisible.
