mass storage solution...my idea.
« on: February 14, 2009, 05:09:35 PM »
ok well i've been thinking a bit, whats the cheapest and easiest way to get decent storage on my psp.

i have already bought bought the photofast cr3100 and am going to install, but may post pone that if you guys agree with what i intened to do.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/microSD-to-MS-Pro-Duo-Memory-Stick-4GB-8GB-PSP-adapter_W0QQitemZ330305745172QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Digital_Memory_Card_Readers_Adaptors?hash=item330305745172&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2|65%3A1|39%3A1|240%3A1318

that is what i'll be using.

oh and this:http://cgi.ebay.com.au/WHOLESALE-LOT-10-X-2GB-SANDISK-MICRO-SD-CARD-MICROSD-2G_W0QQitemZ260356700415QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item260356700415

so for 70 dollars(australian) i get 20gb.

ok so heres my proposal.

it will be similiar to photofast cr5400 thingy, but on mass scale.

i will remove my umd drive to make room, so i can fit 20 micro sd cards.

to connect them, i will internally run wire from the ms pro duo adapter, behind the mobo into the umd drive, (similiar to photofast cr-3100.

ok heres the tricky part

if i do this righ i think it will work, i will make a thin bed of silicon, may 2 mill thick, whilst it is drying, get a micro sd, and make the spots for it, so im hoping to dual layer it, so 2 layers of 5 micro sd cards.

now i will solder all the top layer card into one exiting wire, from all the cards into one, then connect it to the cables i have run from the pro duo adapter.

to summarise:

a sqaure of silicon in the umd drive, connecting to the adapter, all the cards will be "parraleled" i think is the term, so they should all read as one.

now in theory this should work, as this is the basis of photofast cr-5400 on a grand scale?

your opinoi please..and advice..

also guys, say for example if i bought 2-4 replacement msproduo drives for psp and modded them in the umd drive, would they also work? coz my mum bought 100 16gb memory card pro duos really cheap...so would i be better investing in this?

like to make a cr-3100, except not sd cards mspd?

You could do something to have as many INDIVIDUAL card slots, that read 1 stick at a time.

Wiring them up so 4 16gigs = 64gigs will not work.

of like 1000 gigs with custom firmware.

The cap was raised, and Sony can raise it in OFW with a simple update
