CD reading issue.
« on: February 20, 2009, 07:22:44 AM »
Hey guys i have one my PSPs here that i placed a new mobo in and never had issues with the umd reading my disc and after i put this new mobo in all of sudden its acting weird. Such as when i place a disc in it tries to read it but the laser intends to move toward the middle and clicks and clicks cuz it keeps moving toward the middle. Any suggestion why its doing that and i all the cable are plugged in i double checked.

Did you double check the brown ribbon wire that attaches to the mobo? make sure that is fully attached. Second, how new is the replacement mobo? Did you bought it used? Sometimes when the umd laser unit starts to act up, I have learned that in certain occasions the mobo is the main cause of the problem, not the umd laser unit. This happened to me twice. Even by putting in a new laser unit, the unit was still acting up. It was the mobo all the time. What a waist of a mobo. I hope this helped.

Yea i double checked all the ribbons on the mobo. Its probably been used couple times but still looks new and not used so much. Cuz the laser used to work great with my other mobo till i messed up on it and it didnt turn on any more so i bout a new mobo off a friend that has like supplies of parts. So theres no way of fixing this issue then huh. the laser good but then not cuz its not like compatible with this different one.

There are like to ribbons or wires that connect the UMD drive, one reads the disk (orange or brown) , and the other like spins the disk (green), Check if they are disconnected or damaged, if not just try disconnecting and then reconnecting, usually works for me, idk why,

Ever thought of looking it up on the internet?
This is from Llamma's site:
Quote
Can you hear the Laser move down the rail? This will be a smooth sound of the gears, it should not be a really clicky sound.
If you can't hear it move down the track OR it is very clicky follow this.
It would look like this if your UMD door was off.
You should open the UMD door and carefully manually move the laser to the right side of the assembly.
Use a sharp THIN probe to manually move the WHITE gear under the metal housing. It is quite hard to see it in the photos so I put a red star around it.
I usually try and scrape the gears themselves to make sure there is no gunk or debris in the gear.

Is there's a way that you can test the replacement mobo you recently received on another psp to make sure that the mobo is functioning correctly under another psp? Like I've mentioned before, on rare occasions, the mobo tends to be the cause of the umd problems. I remember taking the mobo out and put it inside another psp and the problem persisted but before the mobo switch the umd unit was working perfectly.

yea you probably right there probably some type of code that it doesnt recognize and maybe need to be flashed almost like if you place a cd drive in the 360 it wont recognize it.

He means when you put the CFW on the PSP using Pandora, was there a UMD game inside the UMD drive, because sometimes that can have a negative effect.
