I was also thinking of that as I was putting together the diagram for the lm386 way. I figured someone would mention it.
Oh yeah now that I look at the diagram by pspupgrade, there is a flaw. Honestly I didn't think of the flaw either but I see it now. The speaker + is what controls the flow of electricity through the transistor. Therefore for the LEDs to be solid on, you have to connect the transistor base to a solid + source. Sorry but the transistor way(as pspupgrade and myself thought it should be) will not work.
