ds lite plug adaptor Q

I'm was trying to make a usb charger for my ds lite but I ran into a little hiccup.  I cut my wire for my spare AC charger and I discovered that it only has ONE wire and the shielding.  I know that the one red wire is the +5 volts and I'm guessing that the shielding is the ground.  So when I connect the wires to the usb end I connect it like this:

Red wire -> Red wire usb
shielding -> shielding

right?  Can anybody confirm this for me?
