Sound Reactive question (LM386 combinations)
« on: March 11, 2009, 06:52:44 PM »
im making L0rdNiC0s sound reactive leds...

but i have a problem, i have completed all the list of the part that i needed in making this mod.. but i have one problem i can buy 191k resistor all stores i go, they tell me OUT OF STOCK  :w00t:  :w00t:  :w00t:

can i replace 191k resistor with 200k resistor?
and why does ever time im going to buy a resistor they ask me, what kind of wattage..?
does 1/2 watts is OK?
what do you preffer?

The wattage stuff is related to ohms law which you can find in the tutorials section. If you exceed a rating you could have a fire hazzard in building some electronics. For the psp I don't think you need to ever really exceed 1/4 watt. (so yeah 1/2 watt won't hurt you. It may restrict too much power though.)

I would try to get it as close as possible to 191K Ohms.  Just search around for the resistors.  The more wattage the resistors the bigger it will be, U should be fine with 1/8 or 1/4.

very nice, now i have an idea.. so the bigger the wattage the bigger the resistor size will be.. hehehe...

No places around here have 191k resistors, so I just use 180k and 11k wired in series.

so if dont/cant find a 191k, i can combine 180k and 11k in series to get 191k?

If i'm honest, this type of led mod doesn't work too well on a slim in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, Lordnico's tut is sound and works really well on a phat psp, but I always found that the leds are too bright and don't pulse very much on a slim. you might want to look at folklord36's transistor led mod for your slim. works very well and all you need is one 2n2222 transistor from radio shack or ebay.

Here's the link, Folklord transistor led mod

I havn't tried the transistor method because I have so many extra lm386s. But from what I've seen it looks nice and simple too.

yea i tried mikes soudboard method which is the same as an lm386 method but built into a little board, and i have to say it sorta sucks... i recently just bought some transistors so when they arrive i will test the transistor method...

The lm386 method works quite well on the phat but the slim speakers seem to be different...

Well this answers my question to cuz i searched at different stores for resistors and as well could not find 191 but i guess series them is the way to go.

*Thanks Modders/Friends:Ghost_Death, gr8npwrfl, Blizzrad, Kenshinffx.
