I'm looking for something that has good efficiency, has 4 seats, looks nice and is cheap.

age doesnt bother me, as long as I like the styling. im in love with german cars. at my age, a hatchback would be the most likely choice.

atm im loving the look of a 2000 VW Golf.

Yeah, most student cars I see here in Britain are Fords, mainly Fiestas and Kas, as well as the occasional Vauxhall Corsa.
You probably would be best off with a VW if you're looking for a German car. Still, the VW Polo is practically the same thing, and if you have a bigger choice, you'll probably end up with a better deal. Or maybe even a Lupo........eurgh.
Citroens, even though they're French, has some German styling, and I'm guessing you could pick up a Saxo or ZX somewhere pretty cheap.

the insurance would be around £2800 a year, im not even sure if they sell the cobalt in the UK. or a daCIA.

Hmm, what about a Fiat Punto, Seicento or Cinquecento? Those ones don't look too bad, and you could get cheap insurance.

Pre 2000 Corsa.
Look good, a lot can be done to them for indivuality and if you keep it long enough you can do simple engine swaps for crazy speeds, D=
Theyre also cheap to run, cheap to insure, cheap to tax, and generally cheap to buy too

106 Independence or Zest
Theyre only 1.1 but they are fairly nippy and look pretty dammn good too
jsut as, if not cheaper than a corsa but its french so expect electrical faults, And as the rear suspension is a torsion(sp?) bar if yorue one of those young asbos like myself that like to terrorise parking lots with your handbrake up you will find yourself iun the mechanics quite often.
Also ive known people who go sideways a lot in there little 106's to have the drive shaft snap on them causing a lot of pain and grief

Id advise against a golf cos although they are real ncie to get a decent one it costs and insurance is not the cheapest either, Wait till yorue 18 and get a 1.6 though they are cool

Polo's Are good nto muh else I can say about them

Lupo's are really really cheap D= and can be done quite well so its a nice choice, Personally I wouldn't go there ....

Fiestas are quite nice quite cheap, Personally I don't like them but at the end of the day the decision is yours as you have to take in all sorts of factors

For a cheap, reliable car that is cheap to insure get yourself either a
Mk2 Polo from around 1990 - engine size 1.0L or 1.3L
Mk1 Golf - engine size 1.0L

I think the golf is better but a more expensive car to buy as you can get a reasonable condition mk2 polo for about 300 pound

i found a lovely black 2001 corsa for £800 :P

i prefer the look than the new new ones, and of the pre 2000 ones. im not into modification all that much. i just want a car.

It's not an SXI but it has SXI Alloys bar the steelie

and its got a merit interior but sport dials D=

If you're not that into modifications at least buy a new alloy and lower it some, Poor corsa's sitting on stilts there :P

VTR's are pretty cool, althouygh my personal prefernce woulb be a 106 1.6 Rallye as they are pretty much the same car

as long as they're not chavtastic with over tyhe top mods, Puts a bad name to us cruisers

But don't listen to anyone mate. it's a guarantee that you fall in love with the first car you own :P

Man get a motorbike!I drive a Honda NSR and insurance is 400 euro's for first year because of my not having a (bonus for not crashing or getting money off insurance company,can't remember the word)

SEAT AROSA Wohohohho lovely cars for first time and they can look great with a little bit of work same with Mk1 Vw golf but its hard to find a tidy one thats in good condition really

there great cars - they might not look cool but they have a decent size inside and small on the outside so there easy to park and can fit 5 people and 2 weeks of shopping in. also theyre cheep to fill up and drive like a go cart - i have loads of fun driving it and there very nippy. plus they go and last for years and years
