game boy pocket mod
« on: June 10, 2009, 02:31:00 PM »
First post/topic, I've been lurking the site for a few months now, it's about time I registered. I have a clear Game Boy Pocket I've been wanting to mod for about a year now. I intend on doing a partial shell swap (green faceplate, blue battery cover) and installing some LEDs and a prosound mod, as well as a backlit screen. I'm not exactly sure how to go about doing any of this, but I have a grasp on the concept of soldering. There is a small unused space to the left of the batteries under the battery cover, I was wondering if it would be possible to incorporate a switch to turn on and off the backlight, as well as the LEDs in the console.

I also have another question, would it be possible to use a psp analog nub and solder it to the up, down, left and right d-pad controls?

If all these questions in a first post is an annoyance, please let me know.

Thanks for your time! Happy modding!

it sounds like some good ideas. first shell swap and leds no prob you can find info for other systems and just intergrate it to gbp. same with sound mod. second backlight should be possiable and there are some small switches around so im sure you could fit one. i just dont know where to find a bacllight that size. and for the analog nub it should work using a razor x or a2d to solider to but as you said do some minor solidering b4 you jump into it too deep. i hope this helps or sparks some intrest. this site has helped me alot in just knowing i can do something instead of throwing away something i broke. aka alarm clock, stero, etc.

So, I wouldn't be able to use a regular psp analog nub?

as far as the backlight, I installed a device called the Afterburner from Triton labs on my Pokemon edition GBA.

It was my first mod with electronics and everything went well.  Just took my time with it.

Don't remember the exact size, but maybe it will fit the Pocket as well.

Good luck!!

you might be able to but i would look up dual analog and pretty much do it the same way as the 2nd nub for the xo[]^ bottons. plus it shold show mor on a2d or razor x. i hope this helps.

Well instead of doing a shell swap I painted the inside of the faceplate with a sky blue so that it has a clear coat effect, trying to figure out how to wire the leds now :|

I'm still learning so any help would be greatly appreciated! I'll have a few pics up soon.

Hey there, I know exactly how to wire the LEDs, if you still need help. (I know it's been a while since you posted last, but I thought I'd try and help).

Anyway, if you need any help, just send me a message or something.

Cheers mate. :)
