555 timer on wired controller help?

okay i just got done modding a friends wired controller here is a link to it http://reviews.cnet.com/game-accessories/pelican-xbox-360-tsz/4505-10110_7-31894475.html and it worked okay... it stutters kinda bad and my friend seid it dies alittle more everytime he uses it could the power it is giving the timer since its a low power one be overloading it and makeing it stutter and slow down everytime? could i use a timer chip like this http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062596&tab=techSpecs since it operates at 5-15v any suggestions hes a good friend of mine and i owe it to him to make this work he even bought all of the parts but he got the wrong chip the one in the link and if it would work that would be great

Check all the connections to the 555. If you have a low-power timer then, that is correct. I'm guessing that controller maybe works from 3.4-5.4 volts.

connections are fine i used it on my wireless controller worked like a charm put it in his wired one it started stuttering.. and it does't adjust well with the potentiometer
