is there any way to fix it? my friend is getting mad at his 360 and i just dont want him to destroy it so yea. help me. i usually dont go in the 360 thread so bear with me

which error is he getting? is it the "cannot read disk" or is it "open tray"

If its under warrenty. Send it back to MS.
He can't play his games anyway, whats he got to lose from waiting 3 weeks.

If it isn't.
Could be a faulty drive altogether, like not spinning (or fast enough).

Could be a dirty laser. If its a laser problem, fix is this.
Shot Glass:
1/2 Bleach
1/2 Water
And a cotton bud.

Take 360 apart and drive cover off
Dip the cotton bud in the Watered-down Bleach.
Gently clean the laser.

This worked on my PS2, honest to god.
I can finally play Ratchet and Clank again :P.

"Drive doesn't work" is a pretty broad area to explore though...

mine gets on that kick everynow and again, like roy said it can be alot of things, most likely is the drive is failing..with mine I found that when I insert a disk, as soon as the drive closes, Iput pressure on the drive tray, and lift slighty up with my thumb, its crude, but works most of the time.

Yea its possible i had an issue of mine not reading disk and all i did was clean the dust out and i had issue of the tray not opening and i cleaned the gears and works fine now.
NOTE: Let me know once you open the top and take it off test it real quick and if the spindle isnt spinning i can help with that.

right now just a modded psp. but i am getting a fresh 1000 on monday. but if you want to keep it, it shouldnt be too hard to fix. i just fixed my friends last week. tray open error. cleaned lazer and screw(the one it rides on) and no problems since.
oh yea i wanted to add, 360 worst enemy is dust ive noticed.

Ight man well let me know whats up once you get it open. It shouldnt be hard theres only 4 screws holding down top part of the drive. Should be a walk in the park to take it off.

well idk if its good news or bad but, the waranty sticker is gone(guess he opened it) its a benq drive not hitachi or samsung, its the arcade model, and its not jasper.

so can i still fix it? the benq drive?
