Charge iPod batteries without an iPod?

Is it possible to charge an iPod battery without the iPod itself? I've got a few batteries here and they're perfectly sized for use in other things, but I have no way of charging them.

Is it possible? What if I used just a dead motherboard? Would I be able to hack it down as small as possible to charge it?
