Forward Voltage of LEDs?
« on: July 26, 2009, 10:29:25 AM »
Long story, but I need to tape some LEDs to batteries so they'll light up.
I can't seem to find any button cell batteries over 3v. The forward voltage for most LEDs I've found is over 3v. Only a few colors of 10mm and 5mm LEDs are under 3v. If the forward voltage of an LED is 3.1-3.4v, then will I still be able to power it with a 3v button cell (I plan on using a unch of CR 2032 button cells)?

sometimes 3.4Vf LEDs will work from a 3V 2032 cell....

but if you are using a bunch of 2032 then just stack em together in series and use 6V for your LEDs :dntknw:

Wait... You mean if I put two 3v button cells together it'd be 6v? Sh*t. I'm stupid. Common sense. i never thought about multiple batteries. Okay. Thanks so much for the help. I appreciate it =)

not stupid, just had tunnel vision for a second....

Happens to me all the time, sometimes you think so hard about things you lose track of the simple things, and all it takes is a second pair of eyes to snap you out of it :winker:

What i like to do if im running LED's off batteries is get a AA battery holder they usually have 3 battery ones and its about 3.6 volts and easily replaceable :P
