District 9's Arc Gun
« on: August 28, 2009, 08:32:32 AM »
after watching district 9 again today I decided to make a model of the gun for a costume. and for those who don't know or haven't watched the movie here's the gun.

i'm thinking of making it with styrofoam with some metal poles to strengthen it. then use some plastic pipe for the circular parts. a small bottle for the thing on the top. add some old wires to it and if everything is done in time i'll put some leds in.

if any one else have any suggestions i would appreciate it.

will be posting progress

Use parts from a super-soaker for the body and the tank-thing at the top.

Turn it into a flamethrower
and use dye to make a blue flame (don't tell me that won't work, cuz I've done it before)

thanks guys which brand of thermoplastic would you recommend tec_.  theres 2 things i'm thinking about atm either styrofoam as the whole thing and shaping and strengthening it when done. that or use some metal possibly like a hanger soldered in the shape.

about how much do you guys think its scaled by 1:50 1:100?

i like the idea of using a super soaker but maybe as a base cause i would like to make it as exact as i can and don't know how to put the pump

Umm try and go with 1:50 scal for the pump take apart the super soaker and take it out I don't know if that works or not but styrofoam would work just got to paint it and stuff

Also, use parts from the bodies of airsoft guns or paintball guns, you can get them off craigslist or ebay. Just use bondo, sandpaper, and spraypaint after cutting them to size.
