Okay so I've been doing alot of mod work and not reporting it for alot of my clients anyways I gotta do a softmod to a regular xbox console my client brought me one of the first Macintosh Laptops we all used to use back in middle school way way back in the day anyways so I'm gonna take apart the laptop and gut the hell out of it and grab a Flat LCD panel for cheap hopefully I don't think I could use the laptop screen but I just might be able to and the end results will be a portable xbox in laptop form I'm gonna head over to benheck.com and see if I can get some help from some forum members over there or actually I already got my case built I just need to figure the pinouts of the screen thats already on the laptop see if we can figure some VGA cables into if not I have to go to step B and order a LCD.....

I will keep everyone updated on the project and when I finish I will post a tutorial or if you want me to make one I will post a link or you can PM or Email me fo sho...

For a start you definitely,without a doubt,won't be able to use the laptop screen,the screen input isn't vga or scart or any other popular av interface,unless you can programme a field programmable gate array (fpga),which I doubt any of us here could do for something like a laptop screen.
Second problem is the cooling,the processors in xboxs get pretty hot even with their huge heatsinks.You certainly won't be able to use the existing heatsinks,you'll have to find a VERY efficient and small cooling system which is suitable,and driect the airflow for maximum cooling efficiency.

On a brighter note,you can reduce the size by removing the power supply,and using a re-chargeable battery and charger from something like a portable dvd player,with the charger being external and the battery being internal of course.Just get the specifications of the xbox power supply and find a battery and charger combo that match.And make sure that you get a very,VERY high capacity battery,or you won't be able to drive the screen let alone the xbox itself.

If you ask me you'd be better building a slimline xbox...

Hmmm... a slim xbox... sounds interesting almost like a ps2 slim or something of the matter I haven't really been looking into that but yeah I can agree on them heat sinks I think I will have to go about it in a whole new way... Water cooled heatsink like the first 360 laptop ben heck made had a custom water cooled heat sink installed then you are def right about the power source was thinking of using a rechargeable battery pack because it wouldn't be a laptop if you can't unplug it and still game...

This is def sparkin my interest on doing something unique I really am into thinking of the laptop but I might proceed doing the slim project and then drop an LCD on top and bam laptop..

I wanna install a keyboard though and a few other things I am def gonna use the laptop that my friend yogi gave me to fix since it can't be fixed its gettin gutted I am thinking can I switch out the dvd drive with a regular slim line drive thats used for laptops kinda like how you crack the firmware on the 360 drives...

Lots and lots of details to go over...

But in the end I hope my client is happy I found some of my old mods I've done well the pics I took of them I think I need to photo bucket them to get the images up on here I will do that when I have time..

Ryan0 is there any easy way of hacking the xbox without doing the solder mod with the memory stick cuz if I mod it out of the shell its in I don't know if it will respond but I guess I gotta give it a go...

No not really for instance some laptop batteries give off more voltage then the xbox power supply but only difference is switch it from DC to AC power. But the current is the only issue in this matter other then if you look for AC sources with 12v and 16.5amps then thats the xbox power right there.

It wont be easy though i can tell you that but it can be done with the right amount of knowledge and so forth. If he can find a AC power supply that much smaller then the xbox one then he do but if not hes going to take that xbox AC power supply apart and some how make the board smaller and that witch i know will not easy at all.

Getting the power to work is incredibly easy.
Its just xbox uses too much to have a battery be practical.

If not I will just have it wired for now my client don't really care as long as it looks sleek and cool...

When I figure out a proper battery for it then I will do that hack I'm gutting my powerbook G3 2morrow....

Anyone know if I can re-use my powerbook G3 HDD and use it with my Dell hit me up....

Welll i searched around at laptop batteries they give enough voltage but the amps is the issues. The xbox need a lot of amps to power it and i the highest amps i found in a laptop battery AC of course was around 11amps.

Not going to add battery.... straight up just wired for the moment..!!!

Not gonna stress on adding a rechargable battery less money to spend..

Got the Laptop almost gutted got a few boards left need to get a new torx screwdriver lil sister got into tools in garage grrr...

Gonna use a flip down 15inch LCD moniter found in most vehicles...

Will post a pic of the gutted Laptop to show my progress gonna use the keyboard from the laptop most likely or buy a cheap usb one..

will update gotta finish up on Binary ACID Distro release..!!!!

You can use multiple batteries wired in parallel (e.g positive to positive,negative to egative and so on) which will boost up the amps and still be able to charge with the original charger.There ain't a chance of you being able to fit that power supply inside the box,just go with the batteries dude,it ain't a laptop if you can't play it on the go.Plus messing around with power suplies is risky business.

Instead of water cooling it you could get some higher performance heatsinks and work out a more efficient airflow for the fan(s),water cooling is hard,expensive and consumes more than its' fair share of power.
Do the maths,take some notes,fid products and suppliers and work from there!

Ahh im so stupid i forgot wiring the batteries while im looking for one that equals same volts and amps XD. Nice catch ryan.

But umm ben heck they mad there own heat sinks for the water cooling from what i remember seeing but how expensive is it make a heat sink off the bat.

Ben hecks wii laptop....battery powered.Ben Hecks newest revision of the xbox360 laptop...battery powered.Check out the portables on his forum and stop being an idiot.It's simple electric theory that you can wire multiple batteries together while still keeping the voltage the exact same but stacking the amps.If you can get your hands on 2 or 3 laptop batteries of the same spec,in theory you should be able to drive an lcd and the xbox well.My laptop has a 17 inch crystalbrite screen,yet my battery can still drive the screen,motherboard etc. for 2 hours.Depending on the battery,one could do it with a single battery.

Ryan, you are wrong, if you look at the links at the end of my post, which are the latest xbox laptop and the only wii laptop he made. NEITHER of them use batteries. The wii has a built in power supply, BUT that's just the brick, you still need the power cable, as for the 360, there's just no batteries.

lol college really is stressing all of us. lots of tension here too... on topic though, You most definitely can use battery 4 the 360 and the ps3 but i dont think i would trust batteries just soldered together; too much risk of exploding batteries lol
