Wii Controller Problem?

So i just recently downloaded Donkey Kong Country 2, and it said i could use the Classic Controller or the Gamecube Controller. After it downloaded i tried to play it but it did not work, it said i need the classic controller and to press A to go back to the main wii screen. Well, what happened? is there anything i can do to get it to work?

Uhm. Plug in the classic controller or gamecube controller and play it.
You can't use the wiimote.
