The optimus keyboard has been CANCELLED.  It was too expensive to produce.  The company is now working on a version with black and white keys, instead of full color.

However, you are pwnt.  My demonic keyboard loaded up with EL-Wire.  The mod took about 10 minutes.

o snap..that is O.O

man wish I could do that, how much did you spend on it? and what inverter did you get small enough to put into the keyboard, that didn't draw too much power from the USB Port

Yes... I've been watching the development of this keyboard since 2005.
This keyboard will be on the market in limited supply at first and will
cost US$ 1564 to start.

Hopefully the price will drop after a while so I could aford to get one.

The El-Wire is powered off it's own 12v connection to the PSU.  I don't remember the specs on the inverter, I just found one that would go from 12vdc to 120vac.  I had a secondary power cord that came out of the keyboard, and I installed a plug for it onto the back of my pc.

As for space, this particular keyboard has a hollow palmrest.  I just stuck it in there with some double sided 3m tape.

what I think you can do  is get like one of these:
http://www.thatscoolwire.com/store/item.asp?Category=168&SubCategoryID=107&GroupID=&SKU=1%2E5v%2D10%2D150cm
and instead of using a triple-A battery, you can just wire it up to your USB power. And just stick it like under the palm rest. Does it seem plausible?

It's possible, but would require a conversion circuit.  USB is 5VDC and you need 1.5VDC for the input of that inverter.  The final hurtle would be calculating the number of amps that would be required and making sure that it doesn't exceed the 500mA supported by the USB bus.

It wasn't a big issue since my keyboard is wired.  It's just another wire coming out of the keyboard to power the el-wire.

Anyway, I think it needs to be repeated that I no longer endorse using ElWire or internal non LED lighting solutions.  The inverters themselves are just too unreliable.  The need to convert from VDC to VAC is just far too inefficient.  Use LED's.

how the el wire actually work, does it pass an electric current through it, so that it lights up, and does it have to be a specific type of current?

Google El Wire, rather than asking here.  this post is not a howto or explanation thread.

don't ya mean, this thread is not a how to or an explanation thread...It is just my asianess that has the correct the grammar..anyways..the first things I did when I saw the idea with el wire, was to google it. I found. http://www.elwire.com . but it didn't tell me exactly how it was connected, and the current being connected.
