usb port queries

i want to do this but i dont know where should i solder the positive and the negative points to the 5 pins of the usb...


i don't know where is the negative and the postive on the 5 pins...

can anyone help me..thanks...

Are you doing this on a mini. If so you need to find out the pinouts of the USB then from there it should be easy.

that's my problem i don't know what pins corresponds to my connections..

btw i'm getting the usb port from a card reader or from an mp3 player..

any clue which is which?

A usb plug only has four pins, not five. it has ground, power, data+ and data-

the two outside pins of the usb are grounds, and the two inside are + however I am unsure of which two are data vs power.

correction. mini usb cables have five pins on the end that they connect to the device, however, on the end that plugs into your pc there are only four. so something is common. simple probing will tell, I f I have time this evening after work I will poke around a bit and see what more I can get for you.

if you cut the end off though there are only four wires inside.

if all you want is power, use the diagram above. a bit more info on what your doing may help. I did not have time to probe a mini usb last night. but will this weekend
