On January 7th 2010 at 9am MST sparkfun will be having a free day. they are giving away $100,000 worth of stuff for free.

there is a $100 limit per household and you must pay the shipping.

Considering only ~1000 orders will go through ($100,000/$100) we'll need to make sure to execute all orders at 9am, I recommend you all have your shopping carts picked through to the limit and ready to press submit.

80-200 sites inform readers given the rumor spreads appropriately
sparkfun readers get most deals considering they're directly linked to the offer which as of now has 200+ comments

Given no other methods of input: ~5-13 users per site informed receive offer. But, Sparkfun gets the most so we'll see acidmods at ~4-10.

This thread has been read 134 times in less than 24 hours of being posted

Sparkfun might be banking on some unfortunate transactions that don't make the $100,000 cut. Assuming they don't fudge the numbers, I still imagine some people will go for the buy not realizing they're paying full price.

Be cautious of your order. If you're 15 minutes past 9 on checkout, I recommend not ordering with the deal in mind at all. If nothing else make sure to have $100 + shipping in your bank accounts.

i think that there will be 1-2k people at 8.59AM in front of their computers waiting for 9 o'clock... sparkfun servers will go down and nobody gets free stuff. I will try anyway... even if i have to pay 50$ for shipping.. there are so many things like arduino, breadboards, and a multimeter that i would definitely need. i'm only 15 and i can't spend so much money on these things, but i'd really like to learn to program microcontrollers and things like that.

Sure, but what happens if they revoke the deal still charging you for the order. Say that hit their limit of 100k and charge you for the shipped products. I'm not sure of there refund/return policy. But, if you'd like to prevent :censored:ing yourself over, make sure you've got a safety net.

If you're willing to risk it, fine, but don't depend on the sincerity of an commercial retailer.

a quick call to them would easily solve that if they don't have some kind of safety net to prevent that from happening anyways.

I've dealt with this company before and they're great, regardless of anything you're worried about.
