LED "PS" Logo on PS3
« on: November 19, 2009, 03:17:13 PM »
I'm a new member of the ACIDMODS community and as a initiation, I thought I would put the Playstation logo in LED's on the front of my PS3. This mod is very similar to alman101's mod, but I'm going to have different color LED's. Here's a Photoshop preview:

I just recently started this project and I will be posting pictures as I go along. I do have some photos as of right now. I already drilled the holes and now I'm waiting for the LED's, here are the photos I have so far:

Keep a look out for more photos!

Lol I know. I was going to use the actual logo as a template, but then I saw that you used the fluorescent one and saw that it was was good photo to keeps my LED's straight.

Quick Update: I ordered the LED's, so I should get them next week or so. I'm still trying to find a internal power source. I found 12 volts for the blu-ray and I was thinking of running 4 LED's in series and then having 22 series in parallel, but I would prefer to have a 3v source so each LED will be in parallel. If anyone can help me with this, I would greatly appreciate it.

EDIT: I could also put a -9v regulator so it lowers the 12 volts down to 3 volts.

Day 1 of installing LED's
« Reply #3 on: December 05, 2009, 12:18:39 AM »
I got the LED's today and got done after 3 hours of gluing and soldering the red ones (the "P"). I decided to just tap into a 12V source and wire 5,4, or 3 LED series, depending on the voltage of the LED's, and adding the correct resistor in front of the series. Then take all of those series and wire them parallel. It may seem complicated but when it's drawn out, it makes more sense. Here are some pictures (cell phone quality):

I'll have more pictures and updates soon! Thanks for being interested!

I couldn't sleep last night so I spent another 4 hours and finished gluing and soldering the rest of the LED's. I uploaded photos and I'll embed them later tonight. I just got my resistors, so I'm just about to start. I can't start looking for a power source until I get my multimeter in the mail next Monday or Tuesday. I think I'll just go the easy way out and tap into the Blu-Ray. I hope I can finish this today so all there is to do is wire in the inline plug (for easy removal of the top for when I work on it) and the switch (so I can have the LED's on or off while the PS3 is on.

I'm taking a break from soldering, my back and my neck was getting stiff. So, I thought I would post those pictures that I promised.

Will have more tomorrow!

looking great!  Maybe you might want to invest a little in a led fader to that awesome affect :D

Day 2: Finished after 15 hours!
« Reply #11 on: December 06, 2009, 01:15:41 AM »
I'm finally done, but not finished (I still have to sand the LED's down so everything will fit right). I took some very beautiful pictures of one of the coolest mods, both "day" and "night".

I would like to thank Alman101 for inspiring me to come up with this mod. I was looking for a unique LED mod that I could do and found his, and then tweaking it to the way that I like it. I hope that my experience and "As-I-Go" pictures will also inspire others as well to create something that not many, if not, none at all have.

Now on to the pictures! I couldn't wait to post these, so why should you?:

Yeah, the fader chip would look good, but it's not really me. I was thinking of putting the sound-activated chip in. or if anyone one else has other cool ideas, I'll look into them as well.

But I may add the fader chip and install a switch, so I can choose between multiple modes.

Thanks! I still need to tweak the resistors, so they look relatively the same brightness. Probably when I rewire it to 5v's for when I add the PulseVU 2X.
